One of the highlights of Dr Chui’s recent trip to Tokyo was visiting the Hachikō statue outside Shibuya Station.
Hachikō’s story is legendary. After his owner passed away unexpectedly, he continued to wait at the train station every day for years, becoming a symbol of loyalty and devotion around the world.
What many people don’t realize is that Hachikō was later found to have severe heartworm disease, a condition that remains a risk for dogs today.
As we enter heartworm prevention season in Ontario, his story is a reminder that some of the most important acts of love are the simple preventive measures that help keep our pets healthy and protected.
Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause serious damage to the heart and lungs. Fortunately, prevention is safe, effective, and far easier than treating the disease itself.
Our dogs give us their unwavering loyalty. Preventive care is one of the ways we give that same commitment back.
