Although they are very close, they live quite far apart with Rayelle based in Los Angeles and Cayla in Toronto, Canada. The way they get around this? They log many, many hours online where they come together to work on their favorite thing, the Misfits (thank goodness gmail chat is free!)
Both Cayla and Rayelle have been designing, drawing, sewing and creathing things their entire lives. They alw
ays thought they would grow out of their toy loving phase, but with three decades in, they realized they had made a life long comittment. They both attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, where their thesis project, "The Beauty of Belonging" became the spring board for the family of characters they now call the Misfits. They have been making the Mefits since 2009 and feel like they are just at the beginning of their endeavour...with many great things to come. When they do take a break from Misfit making, Cayla, whose favorite Mefit is frankie, searches for black and white stripe or polka dot clothing and vintage chenille chicks, and Rayelle, whose favorite Mefit is Dotty, spends her time grocery shopping, cooking and grocery shopping again, as well as hiking with her miniature (yet mighty!) dachshund Charlie, whose favorite Misfit is anyone he can get into his mouth and chew. The Mefits were created as a solution to the things were not so sure about. Each character comes with a story that takes one of our most misunderstood traits and finds all the benefits within it - from freckles to farts to funbags - we've got you covered. We’re on a mission to solve a world of insecurities, one felt doll at a time.
