Unfortunately it's circumstances are similiar to an issue encountered last night

As I mentioned earlier it has been a very strange week with things happening that I have never encountered before

A young dog came in not long ago and she needed a groom and was fixed up beautifully and given a puppy cut

I had noticed on intake that her collar was loose on and meant to adjust it - but I forgot

Last night I was letting the dogs out when I got home

I approached her and noticed that she was acting odd and pawing at her mouth - then I realized that she had the collar stuck on the end of her lower jaw

Luckily it was a metal clasp opening so I simply needed to press in to release - so I grabbed her and then subsequently released the collar clasp with my free hand

This could have been a very bad ending

I see a lot of people walking dogs on leashes, with collars that are almost able to be pulled right off over their heads

This is a reminder -
Please check your dogs collar for proper fit regularly as they do loosen up

If you don't have a good memory put a monthly reminder in your phone

For those of you with dogs you have to have groomed put your reminder in for the night of the groom

Do not buy these!!

This is the second dog in the last two weeks that we’ve had come in to our hospital with this type of bone stuck around it’s mandible. Separate companies but the EXACT same design.

Please do NOT buy this type of bone for your pup! It’s not worth the risk. Luckily for this patient, our technician was able to wiggle it free but our previous patient was under general anesthesia for nearly a half hour while we went through every tool in our arsenal to saw through both sides of the bone safely.
Both dogs are lucky that they did not end up with lacerations or broken teeth.

Hazel from Save Me Rescue visited today for most likely her 1st groom ever….. she was not a fan but she left looking and smelling like a million bucks! She’s ready for her new family!
