Would you know if your cat was in pain? Cats will often hide the fact that they are in pain and are often more difficult to read than dogs. Our feline family members will show us how they feel through behavior changes.

Signs of pain in cats:

✅ Reduced activity
✅ Loss of appetite
✅ Quiet/loss of curiosity
✅ Changes in urinary/defecation habits
✅ Hiding, hissing, spitting
✅ Lack of agility/jumping
✅ Excessive licking/grooming
✅ Stiff posture/gait
✅ Guarding behavior
✅ Lack of grooming/matted fur
✅ Tail flicking
✅ Weight loss

If your cat displays any of these symptoms, contact your primary care veterinarian as soon as possible to discuss it.

URGENT ALERT:

Hello everyone,

We hope that you are all safe and well.

Unfortunately, we've had a positive COVID-19 case arise in the clinic and so effective immediately, we are closed until further notice. We are hoping that this period lasts only very briefly and that all other staff to be tested return negative results, but until we have confirmation, we must take this step.

As you can imagine, this is a very difficult decision to make and it's hard on all of us not to be able to be there for our clients and patients, old, new, and yet-to-be.

We will keep you posted on our hospital's status and very much hope to resume our services soon.

If you need anything urgently, please contact the next closest emergency facility to you, otherwise, please contact your regular veterinarian when they are next available.

Please take good care in the meantime.
The CTVR/EC Family

Hello all,
We have a very important request, if you can help us:
This is Goo. She is a 2 year old schnauzer crossbreed who unfortunately slipped her leashes and bolted earlier this evening. She was lost near Allen Road and Eglinton Avenue and last seen heading north on Bathurst Street. She'd recently had abdominal surgery and has a bandage and catheter on her right foreleg.
We are very worried about her and hoping to locate her as soon as possible.
If you see her, please call our clinic immediately at 416.784.4444 ext. 0.
Please do not chase her but do your best to keep eyes on her if you do see her.
Thank you all very kindly!

Good morning lovely followers!
We're back and thrilled to be!! We hope everyone in Facebookland has been healthy and safe while we were closed. Our team is doing great, including our member who tested positive (and whom will hopefully make a complete recovery soon)! Huzzah!
The clinic has been cleaned from top to bottom, in every nook and any cranny, and we are excited to be seeing our clients (through the window at check-in/out) and our patients (in-person) again!
A deep thank-you to everyone for the kind words and support we've received over the last two weeks through Facebook, email, and over the phone. We even had one clinic offer their space for our team to practice because they believe so much in the work that we do. (I didn't cry when I read that email...) The response we got to our very difficult decision was so warm, caring, and thoughtful. It bolstered us, and lessened the weight of this time in our hearts. Thank you all so much and very sincerely.
On that note: Ready? Set! Here we go!

Hello everyone,

Very unfortunately, we have had a CTVR/EC staff member test positive for COVID-19 and we have made the difficult decision to close the clinic until January 11th (unless otherwise updated) for a clinic-wide quarantine period in order to stop this in its tracks. We will continue to respond to emails as best we can and as swiftly as possible but please understand there may be delays in responding.

If you have an urgent need to be addressed, please contact your regular veterinarian. If your pet requires emergency attention, please contact the next closest veterinary emergency facility to you.

We will keep you all updated, and we very much look forward to resuming full care of our patients and clients as soon as is safe.

Thank you and stay well,
The CTVR/EC team

Oh dear, another lockdown looming... We know this year has been really tough on everyone. All of the change experienced and sacrifices made over the last number of months have been stressful, disappointing and, at times, a real exercise in frustration.
We hope that everyone is able to find bright spots somewhere, even in the smallest of things, to keep their spirits raised.

To update you all on how things are going here at CTVR/EC:
We are still not having anyone but our clinic staff enter the building and this will not change for the foreseeable future. Our front door is locked for this reason. Please remember that we need you to call when you arrive at the clinic for any type of visit, and we still do not have a washroom available for public use during this time.

In terms of patients needing to see our referral specialists, clients are once again able to call to schedule their own appointments so long as they have the approval of, or are directed to do so by their regular veterinarians. This stands for all of our referral departments including Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Oncology.

Our Emergency department is operating as per usual. Should your companion(s) require urgent medical attention, please call us to speak with one of our staff at any hour, prior to coming in.

We are taking steps to prepare for the winter weather and have set up a waiting area behind our clinic for our clients. We have installed a raised platform with a tent on it and we are presently awaiting heaters for the space. While you are here and waiting for your companion(s) you are welcome to use this space but we require masks to be worn at all times and that physical distancing be respected.

In the unfortunate event that you need to say goodbye to your companion, we do have a private space external but attached to the clinic for families to be present for the procedure.

We’re doing our best to make sure patients and clients alike are comfortable while in our care. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Take care and stay well!

Greetings everyone! We hope everyone has been relatively well during this unusual time or at least coping the best they can and getting support where they can.

To update you:
We are still not able to have anyone but staff enter the clinic during this time. It is a matter of being unable to maintain appropriate physical distance, and so we maintain a closed-door policy for the time-being. We appreciate your understanding with this.

As stated back in April, we are able to see cases through all of our departments so if you have a concern, please reach out to us at 416-784-4444.

For clients: please call us before coming in if you need our emergency services.

For veterinarians: please call us before sending any patients.
If an appointment with our specialists is needed, please do the following:
1a) If the patient needs to see Internal Medicine or Surgery, you can call us, or your client may call us directly to schedule the visit.
1b) If the patient needs a consult with Dr. Kevin Finora in Oncology, we still ask that the veterinarian referring the patient go to our website and complete a referral through our portal with full case details, history, and by selecting the "Submitting for review" option and the information will be passed on to Dr. Finora to review and we will contact you.
2) If the visit is for a recheck (follow-up, treatment, etc.) with any of our specialists, clients can call us directly.

It's been tricky and trying for all of us at different points along this COVID-19 road, but as always, we appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation with our protocols.

One of our referring vet clinics sent us a very sweet gift this week for taking care of one of their patients: a basket of fruit and this flower arrangement! It's very thoughtful of them to have done this for us - I'm sure we could all use the pick-me-up during this time, and this is a beautiful one.
Thank you for your kindness! And we are always happy to help!

We have a lovely neighbour of a shop on the North side of Eglinton Avenue, called Elle Made Well, whose proprietor, Elainea, has donated to us a number of high-quality face masks (with an inner pocket for a filter!) to help protect our staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are so grateful for this gift and for the store's unexpected generosity towards us.

To update everyone re: seeing patients during the COVID-19 pandemic:

We are able to see cases through all of our departments so if you have a concern, please reach out to us at 416-784-4444.
For clients: please call us before coming in.
For veterinarians: please call us before sending any patients.

As before, if appointments with our specialists are needed:
1a) If the visit is for a new consult (or ultrasound) with the Internal Medicine or Surgery departments, we ask that the veterinarian referring the patient call us instead of client so that you can speak with the appropriate department and we can arrange an appointment.
1b) If the patient needs a consult with Dr. Kevin Finora in Oncology, we ask that the veterinarian referring the patient go to our website and complete a referral with full case details, history, and select the "Submitting for review" option and the information will be passed on to Dr. Finora to review and we will contact you.
2) If the visit is for a recheck (follow-up, treatment, etc.) with any of our specialists, clients can call us directly. We will pass a message on to the appropriate department and get back to you as soon as possible about when you can be seen.

Thank you for your understanding!
