✨GOOD vs. YES ✨

One of the most important things we can teach our dogs is clear communication!

In this video, I ask Cora to sit and demonstrate the difference between two reward markers I use in training.

🟢 GOOD = Continuation Marker

“Keep doing what you’re doing!”

When Cora hears GOOD, she knows she’s doing the right thing, but she’s expected to maintain her position. I come to her to deliver the reward.

🟢 YES = Terminal Marker

“You’re done! Come get your reward!”

When Cora hears YES, she’s released from her position and can come to me to collect her reward.

Why does this matter?

Without clear markers, dogs can start anticipating rewards, breaking positions early, or becoming confused about what’s expected of them.

By teaching the difference, we create clarity, consistency, and a dog that understands when to hold a behavior and when they’re finished.

Remember, reward markers aren’t just about giving treats. They’re about communicating with your dog!

As we celebrate, let’s remember to keep our four-legged family members safe!

🦃 FOODS TO KEEP AWAY FROM YOUR DOGS:

🚫 Cooked bones – Can splinter or cause blockages.
🚫 Turkey skin, fat & gravy – Can trigger pancreatitis.
🚫 Onions, garlic & chives – Toxic to dogs.
🚫 Grapes & raisins – Can cause kidney failure.
🚫 Chocolate – Toxic, especially dark chocolate.
🚫 Xylitol – Found in some sugar-free treats; extremely toxic.
🚫 Alcohol & raw yeast dough – Can cause life-threatening complications.
🚫 Macadamia nuts – Toxic to dogs.
🚫 Stuffing & seasoned dishes – Often contain harmful ingredients.
🚫 Pumpkin pie & desserts – Too much sugar, fat, and potentially harmful ingredients.
🚫 Corn cobs – Can cause intestinal blockages.

🐶 THANKSGIVING SAFETY TIPS:

🍂 Remind guests NOT to feed your dogs table scraps.
🍂 Provide a quiet space away from the holiday chaos.
🍂 Keep garbage, leftovers, and turkey bones secured.
🍂 Watch doors when guests are arriving and leaving.
🍂 Stick to your dog’s normal feeding and exercise routine.
🍂 Offer dog-safe treats like plain cooked turkey (no bones or seasoning), pumpkin purée, or green beans!
🍂 If your dog eats something toxic, contact your vet immediately.

❤️ Your dog doesn’t need Thanksgiving leftovers to feel included!

It’s official!

I’m excited to officially be able to offer AKC evaluations through Primal Evolution K9!

Whether you’ve been working toward a title with your dog or you’re looking for a new goal to work toward together, I can now evaluate for:

• Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
• AKC Community Canine (CGCA)
• AKC Urban CGC (CGCU)
• AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
• AKC Trick Dog titles

I’m really excited to add this to what I offer and help more dogs and their owners put all of their hard work to the test. 🖤

Evaluations will be available individually, and I’ll also be sharing more soon about upcoming CGC classes + testing opportunities through Primal Evolution K9.

Our family will be growing January 2027, and we couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter. Already so loved, and we can’t wait to meet the little person who’s about to change our world forever.

Hot take. Not every dog wants to be friends with your dog and I promise, that’s okay

Some dogs love other dogs. Some are selective. Some can exist around other dogs perfectly fine but have absolutely zero interest in interacting with them.

And somewhere along the way we created this weird expectation that a “good” or “well socialized” dog should want to play with every dog they meet.

They don’t.

Socialization isn’t about making your dog social. It’s teaching them how to exist in the world around other dogs, people, environments, sounds, etc. without feeling like they have to interact with everything.

Your dog can walk past another dog without saying hi.
They can share space without playing.
They can have boundaries.
They can simply not like certain dogs.

We don’t expect ourselves to be friends with every person we meet, so I’m not sure why we expect it from our dogs.

Sometimes neutrality is the goal, and honestly, I’d take a dog who can calmly mind their own business over one who thinks every dog they see is their new best friend. 🤷‍♀️

Normalize letting dogs just exist around each other without forcing interaction.
