A proper day and night cycle is more than just turning the lights on and off, it helps reptiles regulate their natural behaviors, sleep patterns, metabolism, appetite, and overall well-being. Constant light or an inconsistent schedule can cause stress and disrupt their natural rhythm.

💡 Tip: Use an automatic timer to provide a consistent light schedule every day. Aim to mimic natural daylight hours for your species to help keep them healthy and thriving!

Do you use timers for your reptile’s enclosure?

Rabbit noses are doing way more than just looking cute, they’re constantly working hard!

Rabbits have an incredible sense of smell and rely heavily on it to explore their environment, recognize their humans, and even communicate comfort or alertness.

Their noses can twitch dozens of times per minute, helping them “sample” the world around them in real time.

Fun fact: those rapid nose twitches help draw air into their nasal passages more efficiently, basically turning their nose into a super-powered scent detector !

Rabbits are also obligate nasal breathers, meaning they primarily breathe through their noses. Because of this, they can be more sensitive to respiratory issues, especially when exposed to environmental irritants or underlying anatomical factors.

To help support healthy airways and reduce the risk of upper respiratory concerns, we recommend:
- Shaking out hay before feeding to reduce dust
- Limiting or avoiding scented products (sprays, candles, diffusers)
- Using safe, unscented paper-based litter
- Washing bedding with unscented, gentle detergents
- Keeping their environment clean, dry, and well-ventilated

Small changes in their environment can make a big difference in keeping those bunny noses happy and healthy 💛

Choosing the right wheel is essential for your small pet’s comfort, safety, and long-term health.

Exercise wheels provide important enrichment for small animals like hamsters, mice, and gerbils, but the wrong setup can lead to discomfort and even injury over time.

Here are the key factors to consider:

# 1 - SIZE
A wheel that is too small forces your pet to run with an arched back. Over time, this unnatural posture can contribute to spinal strain, discomfort, and chronic pain. A properly sized wheel allows for a natural, flat running position.

Most dwarf hamsters do best with an 8–10 inch wheel.
While Syrian hamsters, mice, and gerbils do best with an 11–12 inch wheel. Larger small animals may require even larger wheels to ensure a natural running position.

# 2 - SURFACE
Always choose a solid running surface. Wire or mesh wheels can cause foot injuries and increase the risk of irritation, wounds, or secondary infections. A smooth surface helps protect delicate paws and supports safe, consistent exercise.

# 3 - STYLE
Saucer-style wheels may look fun, but they are often not large enough to promote a natural running stance and can be uncomfortable for many small pets. In most cases, a vertical upright wheel is recommended as it better supports proper posture and safer movement.

Choosing the right wheel helps prevent long-term injury and supports healthy enrichment every day 💛

These creepy crawlies are ear mites 👀🐜

Ear mites are tiny parasites that live in the ear canals and can affect a wide range of pets including dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, and other small animals

They can cause significant irritation and discomfort if left untreated. Common signs include red, inflamed, and very itchy ears, along with dark, coffee-ground or tar-like debris inside the ear canal. Pets may also shake their heads, scratch at their ears, or show sensitivity when touched.

Ear mites are highly contagious, especially in young animals or those in close-contact environments, which is why early detection and treatment are so important.

This is also why consistent parasite prevention is essential! Preventative care helps protect your pet from fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites and ear mites before they become a problem.
