Some good information here if you didn’t already know.
There's a heat warning in effect! Stay safe, stay cool and don't forget to keep your pets cool too!
Pets do not cool their bodies the same way people do, and keeping cool in hot temperatures can be challenging. Young, old and overweight pets and dogs with short muzzles are at the highest risk of overheating. Here are some important safety tips to keep pets healthy in the heat!
1) Limit exercise on hot days. Adjust the intensity and duration of walks depending on the temperature, and try to limit exercise to early mornings or evening hours when the sunshine is not as direct. Don't forget to take a break in a cool, shaded area. Tree shade is ideal, as it does not obstruct airflow.
2) Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Staying hydrated helps combat overhearing, so ensure your pets can access lots of cold, fresh water. Add ice cubes or change their water more regularly to keep their water bowl cool. When going outside, bring a water bowl with you so your pet can have a drink!
3) NEVER leave your pets in a parked car. It doesn't matter if the windows are cracked or if it's only for a short period of time. The temperature inside a vehicle can quickly rise to deadly levels. Shade offers little protection on a hot day and will not keep your car cool. If you're going somewhere where you'd need to lock your pet in the car, leave them at home instead!
If you see a dog unattended in a parked car, call 311 and stand by the car until help arrives. If a dog appears to be in distress, call 911.
