Today we said goodbye to our sweet Daisy.
Four years ago, in April 2022, we rescued Daisy and her mom Winnie from an Amish puppy mill, two gentle souls who had spent their entire lives being bred, never knowing comfort, safety, or love. They arrived scared, unsure, and carrying the weight of years of neglect. But they also arrived with hope.
Daisy’s mom passed away in 2024, and now our brave girl has joined her. Losing them both has been heartbreaking, but we take comfort in knowing that their final years were filled with the love and dignity they were denied for so long.
Thanks to Daisy's foster mom Rebecca Maw, Daisy blossomed in ways we’ll never forget. She learned what it meant to have a soft bed, a warm home, and family who adored her. She discovered toys, sunshine naps, miles of trails to run and the joy of simply being a dog; something she never had the chance to experience before.
Sadly, the years of overbreeding took a toll on her body. Daisy developed ovarian cancer, a consequence of the life she was forced to endure before rescue. Despite all the care and love we could give, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her foster family.
We are devastated, but also deeply grateful. Grateful that Daisy and her mom spent their final chapters as cherished family members, not numbers in a cage. Grateful that they left this world knowing love, safety, and gentleness.
If their story reminds us of anything, it’s this: puppy mills cause real suffering, and the dogs who survive them carry those scars forever. Please adopt, don't shop and help raise awareness so fewer animals endure what Daisy and Winnie did.
Run free, sweet Daisy. You’re with your mom again. You were loved beyond measure, and you will be missed more than words can express.
