By far the smallest bird around here! These beautiful birds are nearly 5 weeks old! Another few weeks and they’ll be old enough to add to the breeding flock!

Today I found an egg with absolutely no shell! This could have been caused by several different factors.

1. Low calcium — but they’re offered dried shells and oyster shells so that’s likely not the case.
2. Age (young or old) — we do have several older hens in the group!
3. Stress — this heat wave we’ve been enduring doesn’t help with that at all 🥵

On occasion we do have the odd “weird” egg and isn’t usually cause for concern. But it is pretty cool! The few other times I’ve found one, they were always broken 😂

Today on the daily egg hunt, I found more than I bargained for! These 2 (suspected) Muscovy ducklings appeared from what appeared to be no where.

One I found stuck behind a grow out pen. Caught it and as I was finding a place to keep it before taking it to a brooder, I spotted a second desperately trying to escape a feed trough. 🤦🏼‍♀️

At least they’re together!

I now suspect that first time Muscovy mama “Little Whitey” hatched a couple babies and wasn’t ready to leave her nest.

Either way, I now have 2 adorable ducklings available 😅

Each of these birds are a day old, the size difference is drastic though 🥰😅
