Royal Canin Vet vs. Royal Canin Retail vs. Horizon Legacy – A Surprising Comparison!

We trust our vets to give us the best advice, so we decided to take a closer look at one of the top-selling veterinary diets—Royal Canin Gastrointestinal—and compare it to Royal Canin’s breed-specific formulas available in retail stores. Then, we took it one step further and put both up against Horizon Legacy. The results were eye-opening!

We analyzed the top 11 ingredients in all three products and highlighted the identical ones. Between the two Royal Canin formulas, nine out of the top eleven ingredients are exactly the same. This raises an important question: What justifies the significant price increase for the veterinary formula? And what is the "special ingredient" that’s supposed to improve digestion? At nearly double the price per pound, that’s definitely something worth asking your vet.

👉 Feeding requirements? Also identical! Both Royal Canin formulas recommend 4 cups per day for a 60lb dog.
