Meet the Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis).... nature’s tiny kung fu master with the Eye of the Tiger (literally, have you seen those eyes?).

This little green ninja doesn’t need a gym membership, every day is leg day when you’re ambushing unsuspecting crickets. 🦗💪

While the tiger stalks the jungle, the mantis stalks… well, everything smaller than it. One moment you’re a fly, the next you’re part of a protein shake.

So next time you hear “It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight…” just imagine a mantis doing slow-motion punches in tall grass, wearing a tiny sweatband, ready to deliver one righteous karate chop of destiny.

So excited about this seed sharing partnership that has started between The Allie Sunshine Project & Essex County Library. The Allie Sunshine project is a wonderful not-for-profit organization geared towards connecting with nature. I have been volunteering with them for over 8 years and I'm over the moon about this project.

Help us grow this community driven seed bank by collecting your seeds this fall and dropping them off. Also, for all the plant nerdy people, we would love any volunteers that can help repackage the seeds. Send me a message if you're interested!

We all know that part of the cycle of life is the end. When the kids find an insect at this stage, we use it has a great opportunity to teach about how they lived and what makes them so cool! The kids never get a chance to pet bumblebees, however, after finding this one collapsed on a flower (which, may I add, is probably the best place to 'go'), they were able to get up close to further understand a piece of nature.
