My horses are just trying to make this breeding season way more complicated than it needs to be, and three of them are racing to see who can be bred first this year.

Fran (rebreeding to Special Made Whiskey) is going in true Fran fashion and progressing on an accelerated timeline. We are looking at collection for her tomorrow and inseminating either tomorrow night or Wednesday afternoon 🤞🏻

Molly (Gunna Stop) has pumped the breaks a little and is trying to aim for a Friday collection, which is great because the stallion can't collect on Friday 🫠 so now aiming more for a Monday collection, 10 hour round trip drive to get the semen, and inseminate Tuesday night if it's timing out right

Then there's Vegas (Shining In Town). The new mare who I know very little about in terms of heat cycles. She ovulated on her right o***y last time, so initially looked at the left and saw a nice follicle (second photo) developing 🙏🏻 amazing. Then went to check her right o***y and she has TWO big follicles on that side (first photo) 🤦🏻‍♀️ None of them seem to be dominant yet, and it will likely be the left o***y that does have the dominant follicle, but we will have to continue to track. We are tentatively looking at a Friday collection for her, but it could even end up being a next week collection, who knows?

The mares are finally cooking up some follicles and semen orders are in the works!
Not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous getting into June with not a single insemination done, but we still have a month to work with so hopefully we can make things happen 🤞🏻

The weather went from +27 and sunny to pouring rain and windy, so the mares and babies got to come into the stalls. Good thing Benny was there to make sure I didn't miss anyone for feeding time.
This little goof (A LEGIT SURPRISE) is so much like his sister; needs to be all up in your business and watch everything you're doing

You might see a fluffy black cat in the background of some of our horse pictures, so I thought I'd share a bit about him.

This is Clou (pronounced Clue) and he came to the farm in 2018. At the time I was working as a vet tech in a clinic, and this clinic was also the town pound for stray animals.
Clou was brought in as a feral stray, and the policy was that if a feral stray was unclaimed they would be euthanized.
Clou's time had run out and he was scheduled for euthanasia. I retrieved him from the kennel he was staying in and he was so scared but so kind. He didn't hiss or swat, he just tried to be invisible. He let me pick him up and we sedated him for his euthanasia, but my heart broke for this little dude. So instead I told the vet to perform a neuter instead and I would try to find him a home.
He was neutered and vaccinated and I brought him to my parents property to hang out until I could find him a home.
I set him up in one of the horse stalls with food and water and called around to see if anyone wanted a shop cat.
The next day when I went to check in him, he was gone. Somehow he escaped from the stall and I figured he took off.
Over the next week we kept seeing signs that he was around, and gradually he started showing himself.

Now, his favorite place is with the horses, especially the foals. He is most often found sleeping on top of the round bales in the feeder, and will follow the foals wherever they are.

What a happy little accident ❤️

I had a helper for mending fences. Indigo was very curious about what was going on, and soon all of the horses were involved, coming over to inspect my work.
