Community Update - Water Levels and Next Steps
Yesterday afternoon, thanks to strong collaboration between CN Rail, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, the Municipality of Swan Valley West, and the Town of Swan River, a controlled release of a large amount of overland water was successfully completed.
Thankfully, overnight, most of the water within Town has receded. If weather conditions remain stable, we are hopeful to move forward with recovery and restoration efforts.
Sandbag Disposal
Residents can dispose of filled sandbags at the lot south of the Public Works building (440 Valley Road, just past the building):
• Please dump the sand on the designated pile;
• Dispose of empty bags in the provided garbage bin.
We saw an incredible volunteer response during the sandbagging efforts—thank you to everyone who helped. If additional assistance is needed for sandbag removal and volunteers are unavailable, Town Administration is continuing to explore other options.
More updates will be shared as recovery work continues.

Flood Update – Stay Vigilant
Swan River, Manitoba – Although water levels appear to be decreasing in many areas of our community, conditions remain dynamic, and monitoring continues.
Continued monitoring and vigilance are recommended, particularly for residents living on the south side of Swan River. As a result of the uncertainty, particularly with the unpredictable weather and possible rainfall, we do not encourage the removal of sandbags at this point.

Local Traffic Only in Flooded Areas
Swan River, Manitoba – The Town of Swan River is asking the public to stay out of flooded and previously flooded areas unless you have a legitimate reason to be there.
Unnecessary traffic is causing additional damage, including erosion and wave action, and is impacting recovery efforts.
Please respect all “Local Traffic Only” signage. Access should be limited to residents, business owners, and those directly assisting with response and cleanup.
We ask that you allow affected residents and businesses the space they need to recover.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Flood Situation Continues to Improve
Swan River, Manitoba – Water levels in most areas of Town are gradually receding, and conditions continue to improve. Yesterday, Highway 83 east of Town at Tamarack Creek was opened to help accelerate the release of backed-up water.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., after consulting with the RM of Swan Valley West, a section of the road leading to the landfill from the 83 bypass was also opened, which has further increased water outflow.
Town staff monitored conditions overnight, and we’re pleased to report that the situation continues to improve.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work through this together. Please continue to stay informed and follow any guidance from local officials.
More updates will be shared as they become available.
