This morning’s sunrise, at least to me, represented the proverbial canvas of life in that there were clouds of varying shades of darkness and grey overshadowing the blue sky beneath, and yet, on the horizon there was light and vitality to be found within the rays of sunshine cresting the tree line. As I considered the parallels that the morning sky represents within our daily lives, and how too, our lives are made up of integrated layers of darkness, light, and rays of hope that we call dreams, I was drawn to the following two quotes by the great Maya Angelou; Firstly, “It is not where your dreams take you, it’s where you take your dreams” and secondly, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”. As I find myself reflecting on the meaning within these quotes, I invite you to think about, and reflect upon, what these two quotes mean to you.
How often, especially over the past two years, have we become so caught up in what is going on in the world around us that we see only the dark clouds and forget that even in darkness there can be hope and rays of light. In life, it is often during our darkest moments that we can learn the most about ourselves, but it can also be a time when we find ourselves embarking upon unhealthy, negative patterns of thoughts, beliefs, and or actions that not only keep us stuck looking over our shoulder at the past, but that keep us from enjoying the present moment, and that become ongoing sources of anxiety, depression and disconnection.
