Here is the whole reason I became a distributor for Surecrop - their excellent mineral supplement.

I know there are a lot of mineral supplement choices for horses, but many of them have fillers that
1. Take up space and cost you.
2. Make the minerals more palatable for your horse.

So obviously the first one is easy to talk about - who wants to pay more for less? Surecrop minerals are just that, essential minerals for your horse.

Number 2 is also not too hard to explain. If a horse needs minerals, in almost all cases they will eat the Surecrop minerals, right out of a bucket - until they have had their fill. Once they have enough they will leave them alone until the next time they need some. If feeding a mineral supplement with additives that make your horse want to eat them all the time, you could either waste the minerals when the horse eats them all up and doesn't actually need them or worse, feed too much minerals to them - that they don't really need.

With these Surecrop minerals, I add a handful to every one of my horses every day. They either leave them in the bottom of their bucket or the lick them up - the choice is theirs.

Sometimes it seems like the can't get enough of them and at that time I put them out in a bucket, under a shelter and let them all eat as much as they need. If is quite fascinating, they line up and all eat a bunch, this goes on for a few days or weeks and then they all shun the minerals like they never liked them at all!

I have not found another mineral source that I like as well and I am quite grateful that Surecrop makes them. And, at $48.00 per bag it would last most horses for a couple of years!

Here is our wonderful NSH, Dakota Scout - he belongs to Warren. I am posting a picture of him as he is 20 years old now and has just never looked better. He has always been a bit of a "hard keeper" - he has had the usual, teeth done, treated and resolved ulcers, etc., etc. In the past I have fed him beet pulp with all the different combinations of different types of higher protein feed to put weight on him but lately he just looks better and better - so I have been scratching my head what I have done different and it comes down to the only change has been to his feed. Yes, we are still feeding beet pulp twice per day, but we are also feeding one pound am and one pound pm of Sure Crop's horse pellets - 16% protein - but it seems to be just exactly what Dakota needed to put on that last bit of weight to be in good flesh. So happy to see him looking SO good in his senior years! This feed doesn't have the eye appeal that many of the other commercial feeds do, but the horses like it and it seems to be really doing well by my horses!
Shamelessly I will mention that this is the same feed source as our veterinarian and horse breeder Sheila MacDonald - uses she has used Sure Crop feeds for years.

Feed order going in - please let me know what you need! I saw this article today - I feed most all of my horses at least some alfalfa pellets - good for their guts! We carry Alfa Tec - top quality pellets for sure! http://www.thehorse.com/articles/39599/alfalfa-chaff-vs-pellets-can-form-affect-gastric-ulcers

Alfalfa products with smaller particle sizes appear to be more effective in helping limit gastric lesion formation.
