How Often Should You Shoe or Trim?

There are two common hoof care schedules:

Every 3–4 Weeks

• Great for horses in regular work, recovering from injury, or with hoof problems.

• Helps keep hooves balanced and catches issues before they start.

• It takes more time and money but offers high-level care and performance.

Every 6–8 Weeks

• Suitable for pasture horses or those not ridden much.

• Works well if hooves grow evenly and the horse has no history of hoof issues.

• Easier on the budget and more flexible for busy schedules.

Bottom line:

• 3–4 weeks = proactive care

• 6–8 weeks = standard maintenance

Cindy the Cushing pony update

We shortened the trim cycle to two weeks! It’s important to stay ahead of the growth with pony’s and horses who have metabolic issues and distorted hooves.

I just want to start this post off saying, I know it’s been a really rough winter for everyone.

That being said it’s so important to try to keep on schedule. These guys were left 16 weeks. They are long uncomfortable and sore, please don’t put your horses through this.
