With my rose coloured glasses planted firmly on my face, & because everyone deserves the opportunity to find their happy, please join me in welcoming the incredible Penny Possible to Happy's Place ❤️.
And yep, she's not a senior at all.
In fact, Miss Penny here, she's only 2 months old.
Recently I was approached by an Ontario shelter to assist with a wee pup who had been dropped off by their breeder because they couldn't sell them. When told the puppy, due to her medical needs would be euthanized, that breeder still signed those papers & added a final piece of verbiage on the way out the door: "don't call me".
Penny got left behind at 8 weeks old because she couldn't make someone any money.
So I'll say it a little louder: DO NOT BUY MIXED BREED "DESIGNER" DOGS. A REAL BREEDER DOES NOT BREED MIXES FOR FANCY COLORS OR SIZES AT ALL. DO NOT SUPPORT THEM.
Penny, because of irresponsible breeding, will have an incredibly short life. At two months old, when her life is barely beginning- we're living each day like it could be her last instead.
Born with many physical & neurological deficits, Penny has severe scoliosis as well as no formation of sockets for hips. Her back legs are essentially held on by skin.
Shocked? Yeah- me too.
Right now- Penny is completely pain free. She does her best to run (the back legs provide balance like a tripod), & she loves to play with toys. She's quite speedy in fact.
Penny loves to eat, to snuggle, to annoy the heck out of my dogs- & right now is very much a typical puppy in so very many ways.
Eventually though, her issues will catch up to her. As she grows, one day, she will become painful, her bones will begin to compress & lose the ability to be a puppy.
And at that time, we will say our forever goodbyes.
Someone asked me, why not say goodbye now. Especially when you know the ending. Think of how hard that will be.
And yep, It will be. I already love her a lot.
But for now, there's a puppy who lives each day to the fullest. There's a dog who's over the moon excited about life & has so much love to give.
And that's what rescue is about to me. Unconditional love. Being there just because it's the right thing to do. And sporting wide brimmed rose coloured glasses that say- what if.
This is what finding happy is.
