Kylie grew up in Stittsville and is a recent Veterinary Technician graduate from Algonquin College. She knew from a young age she wanted to work with animals as she had a love for all her friends' pets and never let a dog walk past her without saying “hi”. She grew up in a home without pets until her parents finally cracked and they brought home her BFF Matilda. During her time at school she took home a little kitten named Matcha. Kylie is extremely eager to learn in all aspects of veterinary care and brings a passionate, positive energy to the team. When she’s not smothering animals with love she enjoys various hobbies including; crocheting, playing video games, swimming and most of all reading.

☀️ HEATSTROKE IN PETS: KNOW THE SIGNS 🐾

Ottawa is in the middle of a major heat wave, and today is far too hot to be walking your dog — even short outings can be dangerous.

Our team has already seen multiple cases of heatstroke this season. It’s a life-threatening emergency that can escalate quickly, especially in extreme temperatures.
Pets don’t sweat like we do — they rely on panting to cool themselves, and in this kind of heat, that’s not enough.

🚨 Signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting or drooling 😰
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhea 🤢
• Pale or bright red gums
• Disorientation or seizures
• Elevated body temperature 🌡️

🐶 Some pets are at even higher risk:
• Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds like pugs and bulldogs
• Seniors and puppies
• Overweight animals
• Pets left in parked cars or without shade 🚗

⚠️ But the truth is — all pets are at risk in this heat.

💡 Prevention tips:
• Walk only early morning or late evening
• Keep pets indoors in a cool space 🧊
• Offer fresh water regularly
• Skip the walk altogether if it’s too hot
• Never leave your pet in a vehicle — even for a minute

If you suspect heatstroke, get to a veterinary clinic immediately.

Let’s keep our furry friends safe out there 💛

Dr. Griffith is a 2009 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College. Perth, Ontario is her hometown where she grew up on a dairy farm. She always dreamed of being a vet from the age she could follow the veterinarian through the barn and care for all the four-legged creatures on the farm.

After her high school co-op placement at the local veterinary clinic she secured a part time job there, working after school and on weekends. After graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College, she spent 8 years in farm animal practice before expanding her career to include companion animals. Dr. Griffith's special interests include pain management, surgery and dentistry. She is actively continuing her education in these topics and more. She appreciates the strong human-animal bond that people share with their pets and is excited to join the Hazeldean team where she can continue to provide compassionate and professional care in the community.

Dr. Griffith, her husband and two young daughters live in the countryside near the city and enjoy spending time with all their furry friends, including dogs, cats as well as a couple horses and sheep!
