What vaccines does your kitten need, and when should they be given?
FVRCP is a combination vaccine for feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. This vaccine is considered a core vaccine, meaning ALL kittens should be vaccinated for it (and adult cats) regardless of their lifestyle.
The first kitten vaccine is typically given between 6-8 weeks old, and may be given by the breeder's veterinarian before you bring your kitten home. The vaccine is then boostered every 3-4 weeks until the kitten is 16 weeks or older when the immune system is considered "mature". We additionally recommend giving another booster at 6 months old, based on recommendations from the Feline Veterinary Medical Association. Depending on what age your kitten started their vaccine series this may mean 2-4 vaccine visits to ensure they are protected. It is important to not miss any of your kitten's vaccine visits, because there is only a certain window that the booster can be given so if you are late the series may have to be started again.
