Contemplating our life and wondering if we are doing the "center-circle-center" exercise right!

An excellent weekend at the Adam Thiessen Horsemanship clinic put on by The Prairie and Forest Equestrian Club. A big thank you to Renee Marshal for hosting the event at her property and everyone who helped make it happen.

"Honey Bear Babe" is a 2022 registered, red roan Quarter Horse filly, in foal to Master Cowboy Chex.

'JA Frostem Woodpep' and 'Honey Poo Bear' did their part on this amazing 3 year old filly!
If you’re looking for a ranch and/or arena horse this is the one!
"Honey Bear Babe" has a great mind, good feet and is well balanced, physically and mentally. With 50 days riding she is proving to be steady and reliable. Both parents are proven under saddle and are outstanding ranch and rope horses.
"Honey Bear Babe" is 100% sound but does have a blemish on her right hind.
She was exposed to Master Cowboy Chex on May 24th and sells with a Live Foal Guarantee.

It's been a beautiful spring in Saskatchewan!

Been getting a few miles on some horses while doing some light duty ranching. Ponying youngsters while out checking calves. Foxy even came out of semi-retirement for a wander through the pastures.

Sue has done well and had a very successful first ride. At 4 I may only get on her a handful or 2 more times before turning her out to grow until she turns 5. She has a fair bit more growing yet to do.

It is very important to let those young horses have time at pasture and to be fully mature before asking them to go to work. It doesn't mean you can't work or do anything with them, however we must be very mindful of their growing bodies.

The horses pelvis doesnt reach full ossification until well in their 5 year old year, 6 isn't uncommon for colts. Ossification is a term used to describe when the cartilage turns into bone. Until ossification occurs there is still fair bit of instability and flexibility through the pelvis and can be easily damaged.
Becks Nairn has many excellent write ups and dissection videos that dig deeper into the body and bones of the horse. Excellent food for thought.

Looking forward to a wonderful summer with many more horses to ride. ☀️

2019 Grade Buckskin Mare Approx 15.1hh
Smokey is a beautiful buckskin mare.
She is halter broke, leads, loads, ties and stands to be trimmed. Smokey is a little on the skittish side, however is eager to please and won't take much to turn into one gorgeous saddle horse.

I picked her up in the fall anticipating being home for most of my winter and am back working away out of province.

Sue's first day at school!
Very proud of this young filly.
Sue is the first foal I've raised right from the night she was born. With minimal "formal" training at this point she did very well.

Long time, no posts!

Kicking off 2023 with some equine dentistry for 4 of the saddle horses. They will be some happy ponies now. Badger got awarded "best teeth of the day" of all 7 that got done today.
Although my good friend had one old mare that didn't even need sedation! So I feel that an honorable mention is necessary for old Libby. I unfortunately do not have a photo of her.

I will be doing a reintroduction in the near future for myself as well as introducing the horses! I hope to share our journey this year, especially with Mr Badger horse, who will be offered for sale this fall.

Finally got around to putting a couple rides on Rosie this past week. We haven't done anything since I last posted about her.
She was such a good girl!
We put our first ride on in the round pen, my friend Leonard gave me a hand with some forward momentum on foot.
Then after lunch we went for a ride in the bush in the wind while he ponied one of his young horses. We checked a lot of boxes that day.
The following day we went on a nice easy trail ride with another good friend of mine.
What a fantastic young mare.

Here is a short, uneventful video of a nice little filly I have been playing with a bit over the winter.
This is near the end of our session of her first saddling.
She is going to be a lovely saddle horse.

Hello all, I hope you are doing well and making the best out of a crazy year!

It has been awhile since my last post and I figure an update is long overdue.
First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who follows my page and of course to all of my customers and clients.

A big congratulations to Jenay with her purchase of Miss Poco Cuda Bar, "Bindy". So far they have been loving her and her sweet disposition, maybe one day she will even be a kids horse!

Bindy's full brother Just N Poco Bar, "Cusco", didn't make it very far.. I ended up purchasing him for myself to continue using as a ranch horse. I wouldnt quite call him a consignment fail, he is just so good that I couldn't let him go quite yet!

I currently have one little pony in for starting at the moment. I'd like to thank his owner Nancy for being so patient with me as it has been a very busy fall. I am optimistic he will be the perfect pony for their family.

Hopefully things will settle down a bit in the New Year as I have some big plans in the making and I look forward sharing them with you.

Take care and stay safe out there,

Happy trails!

SOLD
Miss Poco Cuda Bar aka: "Bindy" is an 8 year old registered paint horse mare, standing approximately 15hh.
Bindy is a very uncomplicated mare, with a sweet and kind disposition. She would make a great 4H horse or all around horse for the right person.
I started Bindy in 2017, putting 60 days on her. She went home and was used periodically over the next couple years and after sitting for awhile she was brought back for consignment. She was a willing and uncomplicated start and never offered any trouble from day 1.
It was like she never left when she came back this winter! We have used Bindy to check calves, move yearlings and trail ride mostly this year.
I will have her out by Vermilion Alberta on the long weekend to do some gymkhana and roping, otherwise she is available for viewing near St Walburg.

"One thing to have in mind at all times, is that your horse will benefit a lot more from your efforts to teach him what to do if you are able to arrange things for him so he can succeed — rather than just showing him what you don't want through your corrections." –Bill Dorrance

I really like this book I have been thumbing through by Bill Dorrance and Leslie Desmond. It really makes a person think about their presentation and how they can improve it to suit the horse a little better to make things easier for him. In turn I think it also has an effect on a person with their presentation to the world in general around them and the perception of others.
