Harassment and Bullying:
Bullying and harassment happen in many places and come in many different forms – from using offensive and malicious language, to making threats. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior because it prevents our members and staff from feeling safe and r

espected. We allow constructive discussion, which often includes critical commentary. The page administrator, however, has an obligation to maintain a safe space and will remove all malicious comments and ban the author from the page to maintain a respectful environment. Context and intent matter, and the page administrator will use tools available on Facebook to help protect against content that is intended to intimidate or exclude. While discussions may become heated and can be political in nature, there is a distinct difference between a passionate discussion and one that is intended to offend and harm. Misinformation:
It is important to be clear and factual as misinformation is harmful to our collective work. Comments or replies containing false or misleading information will be hidden. Language and Trolling:
As a public, family-friendly page, we have zero tolerance for bullying or harassment of any kind. Negative comments relating to people’s race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity are also not allowed. Hate speech, bullying, or harassment in your comments or replies will get you blocked immediately. This constitutes the use of any kind of offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate content.

Congratulations to the 2025 Athena Award Winner: Maria Dussan!

Thank you for your efforts as an outstanding union activist, and for your dedication to justice, migrant rights, and anti-racism organizing in our province.
_____________________________________________________________

From her nominator: "Maria Dussan (she/her) is an absolute phenomenon, she is an extraordinary, Queer-Latinx writer, restorative/transformative justice facilitator (Human Rights Commission) and an especially key, infinitely generous, anti-racist activist in our province.

Maria came here as an International Student and attended MUNL on the West Coast. That's where her union activism started - as part of the student union. Since then, she has been a vocal and visionary activist - in so many different arenas. Most poignantly, she has been a creative and joyful proponent of health care access for migrants in the province.

Recently, she organized 'Writing and Spoken Word' opportunities for migrant voices (in partnership with ARCNL) and co-hosted the city's first Transformative Justice two-day workshop with the Social Justice Co-op.

As a union member she has been asked to participate in key, high profile roles on panels and 'teach-ins' both with NUPGE and with the NLFL. In both instances, she was asked to speak about the important work that we can do within our unions in relation to building a culture of anti-racism and how, by extension, this work extends to supporting policies that protect migrant workers in our communities.

In addition, Maria volunteers with NL's Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre.

This year, Maria's NAPE 'work family' got to celebrate her officially becoming a Canadian! Maria's motto (based off a quote by adrienne maree brown) is "What you pay attention to grows." She considers this a reminder and invitation to be intentional about where we put our energy.

She is a member of NAPE and does our union PROUD."

Across the province this summer, wildfires have been threatening communities and homes.

Currently, there are five active wildfires with two being considered 'out of control.' The fights continue and NAPE members are on the front lines, not only fighting the fires but organizing support on the ground.

NAPE members are volunteering and taking part in the 2025 Canada Games being held in St. John’s.

Good luck to the athletes and thank you to all those who made these Games possible 🍁

At just 16, Brian Bambrick fought his way to a silver medal at the 1987 Canada Games... Newfoundland and Labrador’s first in boxing. Now a Campus Enforcement officer at Memorial, he credits sport and his Canada Games experience with shaping his resilience.

From competing in the ring to battling cancer, Brian’s journey is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of sport and the Canada Games.
