🐾 September is National Pet Obesity Awareness Month! 🐾

Did you know that more than half of pets in North America are considered overweight or obese? Carrying extra weight may look harmless, but it can actually have a serious impact on your pet’s health.

✨ Benefits of keeping your pet at a healthy weight include:
✔️ Longer life expectancy
✔️ Reduced risk of arthritis and joint pain
✔️ Better heart and lung health
✔️ Improved mobility and energy levels
✔️ Lower risk of diabetes and other chronic diseases

🐶🐱 Tips to help maintain a healthy weight:
🔹 Stick to proper portion sizes (ask us if you’re unsure how much to feed!)
🔹 Choose a balanced, veterinarian-recommended diet
🔹 Limit treats and table scraps
🔹 Encourage daily exercise—walks, playtime, or puzzle feeders
🔹 Schedule regular wellness exams so we can track weight changes early

Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your furry family member lives a long, happy, and comfortable life. 💕

🌟 Helping Your Pet Feel Comfortable at the Vet 🌟
We know a trip to the vet can sometimes be stressful for our furry friends. At Kenmount Road Animal Hospital, our team works hard to make every visit as positive and stress free as possible — but there are also things you can do to help your pet feel more comfortable:
🐾 Bring familiar items – A favorite blanket, toy, or even a piece of your clothing with your scent can help reduce stress.
🐾 Use calming aids – Pheromone sprays, calming treats, or Thundershirts can provide extra reassurance. (Also, you can speak to your vet about prescription calming medications)
🐾 Happy Visits – Drop by for a quick hello or weight check so your pet gets used to coming in without anything “scary” happening.
🐾 Stay calm yourself – Pets often pick up on our emotions. Keeping a calm and positive attitude can help them feel safe.
🐾 Reward and praise – Bring along your pet’s favorite treats to give lots of praise for brave behavior!

If your pet experiences significant anxiety, talk to our veterinary team — we can discuss additional strategies and options to make vet visits easier for everyone. 💙
📞 Give us a call at (709) 701-2030 to chat with our team or book your next visit.

🐾 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 🐾

Our pets can’t tell us when something hurts, and many animals instinctively hide their pain. This means health issues like arthritis, dental disease, injuries, or even internal problems can progress quietly before we realize something is wrong.

Some common signs that may indicate your pet could be in pain include:
✅ Limping, stiffness, or trouble getting up
✅ Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or play
✅ Decreased appetite or changes in drinking habits
✅ Restlessness, difficulty sleeping, or changes in routine
✅ Whining, growling, or excessive licking/chewing at a body part
✅ Subtle changes in personality or energy level

The important thing to remember is that pain can be managed! From medications and supplements to diet changes and/or lifestyle adjustments, there are many ways we can help keep your pet comfortable and improve their quality of life.

At Kenmount Road Animal Hospital, our team is here to work with you to recognize the signs of pain early and find the best plan for your furry family member. After all, every pet deserves to feel their best—because more comfort means more happy moments together. 💙🐶🐱

It's Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🐱🐱

🍊🐾 Fun Facts About Orange Cats! 🐾🍊

Did you know…

✨ Most orange cats are boys! About 80% of ginger kitties are male.
✨ Orange is a color, not a breed. You’ll spot ginger coats in many different breeds!
✨ They’re all tabbies. Even if their coat looks “solid,” every orange cat has stripes. They also come in "Dilute" as well!
✨ They’ve got big personalities. Many are known to be extra cuddly, chatty, and full of charm.
✨ They’re famous! Garfield, Puss in Boots, Crookshanks, and Morris the Cat are all orange icons.

We think our ginger friends are truly one of a kind! 🧡 Do you have an orange cat at home? Share a photo of your fiery feline in the comments — we’d love to see them! 📸🐈

🩺💉 Why Vaccines Are So Important for Your Pets 💉🩺

Keeping your pets healthy starts with prevention—and vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to protect them from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases. Vaccinations not only keep your dog or cat safe, but they also help protect the entire pet community by reducing the spread of illness.

At our clinic, we’re proud to offer a full range of both core and lifestyle vaccines tailored to your pet’s needs;

🐶 For Dogs:

DA2PP Vaccine – Protects against Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus.

Bordetella Vaccine – Helps prevent kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory infection.

Rabies Vaccine – Protects against the deadly rabies virus.

Lyme Vaccine – Helps protect against Lyme disease, transmitted by ticks.

Leptospirosis Vaccine – Protects against a serious bacterial infection that can also spread to humans.

🐱 For Cats:

FVRCP Vaccine – Protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.

FeLV Vaccine – Protects against Feline Leukemia Virus, which can be life-threatening and spread between cats.

Rabies Vaccine – Keeps your cat safe from the rabies virus.

✨ Every pet is unique, which is why our veterinary team will create a personalized vaccination plan based on your pet’s age, lifestyle and risk factors!

📅 If your pet is due for vaccines—or you’re not sure when they last had them—give us a call today at 709-701-2030 to book an appointment. Protecting your furry family member is the best gift you can give them! ❤️💉

🐾 It’s National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! 🐾

Did you know that cats are masters at hiding illness? Even the most attentive pet parents may not notice subtle changes until a condition has progressed. That’s why regular wellness exams are so important for our feline friends.

At their annual or semi-annual checkups, our veterinary team can catch early signs of health concerns through a physical exam, as well as routine bloodwork. Preventative panels—like adult and senior wellness panels—can reveal changes in organ function, thyroid health, and/or blood sugar levels sometimes long before symptoms appear.

✨ Early detection means more treatment options, better quality of life, and more happy years together.

So, in honor of National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day, consider booking your kitty’s next checkup. 🐱❤️ Your cat may not thank you today, but their future self will!
