Fun fact: Horse’s digestive system is designed to process small amounts of forage almost continuously.

Horses actually have a relatively small stomach and are naturally adapted to grazing for many hours throughout the day. Their stomach continuously produces acid, so regular access to hay or pasture helps provide saliva and forage that buffer stomach acid.

Their hindgut is also home to billions of microorganisms that ferment fiber from grasses and hay. These microbes produce volatile fatty acids, which the horse absorbs and uses as an important source of energy.

Successfully moved all our horses to their new pens today. We also have some temporary boarders staying with us, which will give the pasture in between time to rest and regrow.
BCSunFrostCharm and RunningRKevin were paired for breeding today. While we had originally planned to breed her to a different stud, we weren’t able to get her there in time. We are now targeting next spring for that breeding pairing instead.
