The snow is FINALLY melting!!!
With the warmer weather now on the horizon, it is time for us to start thinking about ticks and protecting our pets against the diseases they can transmit.
As temperatures rise, tick activity increases — and they’re becoming more common in the North each year. Ticks are small, but they can pose a big risk (especially Lyme) to pets and people.
Here are some quick facts about ticks to keep in mind:
- Ticks are active anytime temperatures are above freezing!
- They live in longer grasses, wooded areas and leaf litter. These pesky critters can be found in our walking trails, camps and cottages and even right in our own backyards!
- They attach to animals (and people) to feed on blood.
- Some ticks can transmit diseases while feeding.
Because ticks are so small and can be found nearly anywhere, CONSISTENT prevention is the best way to ensure your pet is protected.
The good news is that we have some effective options to protect your pet from ticks (and fleas!), depending on what works best for your lifestyle.
These include a single injectable medication that lasts for 12 months, or a chewable/topical product that lasts for 3 months.
