Just as a little PSA to help each other out during these crazy times... where is everyone finding insects for their reptiles, etc that's not found locally due to covid19? Any other leads that may help others out? Please share and be specific as to what you are getting successfully.

Hey folks, its hard to believe, but i took possession of the store 6 years ago now. Seems like an eternity ago.
I will forever treasure those few years with many wonderful customers who became friends and many special and awesome critters that taught me so much and broadened my comfort level of the creepy crawlies and all of which i hope had long and wonderful lives and brightened the days of those who cared for them.

Quick tips to sucessfully moving fish:

(Tips Teri has picked up over the years to make transfers more successful...add yours below if you want to share)!

Don't allow bag to get too warm or too cool during transport.

Get your fish home AS SOON as possible!!

QUARENTINE!!! People roll their eyes at this but there a number of parasites and illnesses that can take up to 3 or 4 weeks to show up. You cannot know what you are bring home unless you run a number of tests and most of us are not equiptment. In VERY short its just a risk you are taking by introducing unknown pathogens, etc to your existing fish stock.
Unfortunately the results can be devistating.

Turn your tank/room lights off!! Your new fish feel exposed/vulnerable in a bag and light intensifies this. Low light=low stress (see notes re: stress below).

Float your fish in new tank for no longer than 15-20 mins.

Add 1/4-1/2 cup of tank water to bag every 5 mins as it floats ( allows fish to slowly adjust to new water makeup, dome species are prone to pH shock).

Netting and moving fish is very traumatic, you can see in the loss of color. Ich is pretty much always present in water, stress taxes immune system and makes fish susceptible to ich and other illnesses. There are a few preventatives/precautions to consider:

1. Feed existing fish before floating new fish. New fish should not eat for a day or two as they settle.

2. Add recommended amount of aquarium salt to tank based on species (some can only handle small amounts) as salt healing and purifying.

3. Dose with ich treatment before floating new fish. And repeat as necessary.
