North West Animal Shelter

North West Animal Shelter We are a registered charity. Our mandate is to operate an animal shelter to serve the Bulkley Valley, to rehome abused and abandoned animals.

What do you actually do for animals? We work with the Town of Smithers to rehome impounded dogs that are not claimed. We foster and adopt rescue dogs and cats both locally and throughout BC and Alberta. We have sent dogs to new homes as far away as Philidelphia and Juno. We fund raise to make sure our programs are funded and money is available to operate the shelter. We provide outreach to the com

munity by visiting schools and providing education about animal welfare. We offer spay and neutering assistance program to those who would otherwise not be able to afford the full cost. We have formed relationships with nine outside rescue groups who post available animals on their web sites, and/or take them into their programs, or connect us directly to adoptive families. We assist to screen potential adopters. We assist with photos, transportation to the airport and to veterinary appointments. We help to assess, exercise, train, and bathe rescued dogs.

Demon is missing in Witset
My 1 year old Siberian Husky with one brown eye and one blue eye is missing. His name is Demon. He was last seen on Wednesday. He jumps over my back yard fence when he gets really excited. However, I haven’t seen him return since Wednesday and I’m very worried. He lives in Witset on Park Rd.
If you see him please call 604 366 6319

FOR ADOPTION: GLORY 🐾

Meet Glory, a fun and s***ky 11-month-old girl looking for her forever family! This sweet mama came into our care heavily pregnant at just 8 months old. She did an amazing job raising her kittens in a loving foster home, but now that her babies are off to their own forever homes, Glory is ready to be a young, playful kitten again herself!

Why You'll Love Glory:

Personality: Super friendly, affectionate, and full of playful energy.

People: Fantastic with people of all ages, including kids!

Cats: An absolute social butterfly—she gets along with everyone, from energetic kittens to quiet seniors.

Dogs: Had limited but positive dog interactions, and is open to sharing a home with a respectful canine pal.

Environment: Has only lived indoors so far, so she'd do great indoor-only. However, she’d also enjoy a secure catio or could transition to indoor/outdoor once fully settled.

Glory is spayed, fully vaccinated, and up to date on parasite control. If you've been looking for a fun, affectionate new feline to brighten your home, apply today to meet GLORY!

FOR ADOPTION: TSUNAMI 🐾
Meet Tsunami, an adorable 11-month-old boy looking for a patient and loving forever family! Born to a feral mom, Tsunami didn't have much human handling before arriving at the shelter around 8 months old, but he's making wonderful progress every day.
Tsunami is a gentle, curious soul who loves following his people around and chatting about his day. While he’s still learning that human hands equal affection, he happily shares space, takes treats, and is so close to accepting pets!
Tsunami's Ideal Home:
Humans: Best in an adult-only home for now, though his gentle nature means he could adjust to older, respectful children as he grows in confidence.
Cats: Loves other felines! He would thrive with a friendly cat to act as a role model.
Dogs: Has had limited experience, but all positive so far. He could do well with a calm, cat-savvy dog.
Environment: Strictly indoor-only, where he can feel safe and build confidence at his own pace.
Tsunami is neutered, fully vaccinated, and up to date on parasite control. If you’ve been looking for a sweet diamond in the rough to open your heart to, apply today to meet TSUNAMI!

Why We're Fundraising

The North West Animal Shelter is fundraising to continue with these efforts:

🐾We rescue at risk dogs and cats.

🐾We rehome rescue dogs and cats both locally and throughout BC. We strive to get the best fit for the animal and the adoptive family. All animals are vetted and assessed before adoption.

🐾We offer spay and neutering assistance program ( to those who would otherwise not be able to afford the full cost).

🐾We work with the Town of Smithers to rehome unclaimed impounded dogs.

🐾We raise to make sure our programs are funded. We spend thousands of dollars annually on veterinary services, for the animals in our care and the SNAP program.

🐾We provide outreach to the community by visiting schools and providing education about animal welfare.

🐾We help to assess, exercise, train, and bathe rescued dogs, to ensure they are ready for adoption!

Thank you for being part of our community and for helping us make a difference. We truly couldn't do it without your support.

FOR ADOPTION: NOVA is the sweetest 5-year-old female Pitbull mix you will ever meet! This adorable little lady is 40 lbs of pure cuddles and is looking for a family to treasure her. Nova came into our care after her loving owner developed health issues and could no longer care for her.

Nova is friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets and is phenomenal with children. She would love to find a big family with lots of people to shower her with affection!

Nova is a fun mix of s***k and snuggles. She has a solid medium energy level—she’s always down to keep up with outdoor activities, but she’ll happily snuggle the day away if that’s more your style.

Home Preferences & Behavior:

Cats & Small Animals: Nova has a high prey drive toward cats and needs a home free of small animals.

Other Dogs: She can be reactive toward new dogs through a fence, but does wonderfully with canine friends after proper introductions.

House Manners: Nova has been clean in her kennel and non-destructive (minus a couple of sacrificed plush toys!).

Nova is spayed, vaccinated, and up-to-date on parasite control. If you’re looking for a fun, cuddly new companion, apply today at www.nwas.ca for a chance to meet NOVA!
