Kyon Kennels has had British-style Golden Retrievers since 1970 and Norwegian Buhunds since 1989. We do full service boarding for all types of pets.

We are THRILLED- and so very GRATEFUL !!!!

T0BY ( CH Costadoro Bake me a Cake at Kyon) at 13 months went up against the BIG guns ( multiple top-winning superb champions) at the GRCC Nationals Speciality, and then again at the Quebec regional speciality -- and he won TW0 JUDGES AWARD of MERIT!!

0ur National judge was: Nancy Talbot- Thank you- my heart is so full that you liked our boy in that kind of outstanding line-up!!

0ur regional speciality judge was: Manuel Queijeiro.. Again we were blown away by this honour in such a group of top winning and mature dogs!

As always our handler is Toby's best friend and greatest fan : Colin Brownlee- thank you, dear Colin, for always presenting Toby to perfection! Thank you to the whole team too (Tyler & Bruce- you rock!)

At the Regional Toby was shown by our good friend Melanie Primeau- again to utter perfection! THANKS so much!

We are also full of gratitude to our fellow exhibitors who cheered our baby boy on, when we were unable to be there.❤

BEAUTY and BRAINS: 0ur beautiful boy T0BY ( Can CH Kyon's Costadoro Bake Me a Cake at Kyon) is missed, here at his home, since he is now heading to the all breed St Francis shows and the GRCC National and Regional Specialities in Quebec - with his best friend Colin Brownlee.

How we wish we could have joined everybody at these upcoming exciting events- but alas: This time family commitment (and a new born litter) is keeping us all at home. But we wish all the competitors the very best of luck- Hope you have loads of FUN!!

We are so excited about T0BY who finished in one weekend with 3 straight big Best of Winners majors - handled by Colin - and then ended off the weekend by going Best of Breed (at 12 months of age over a large entry! )under the esteemed Australian judge Tabatha Buckley-Bettis .

We are over the moon happy to share some very exciting news about LUCEA ( Kyon's Lueca Skywalker CDX, RM , RAE, CGN) !!! He has now achieved his CARO Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is a recognition of titling as a Working Champion and as a *Grand Master Rally Champion* in CARO Rally Obedience. We are so amazed by this athletic senior ( Lucea is now well into his 11th year

If you are considering another puppy to add to your Golden Retriever household- or if you have had a Golden Retriever and now want to think about a smaller, easy-to-keep and highly trainable dog- we would STR0NGLY suggest you look into the ancient Norwegian Buhund breed.

Just like our Goldens; our Buhunds are sweetly interactive - highly intuitive, gentle and astonishingly nurturing dogs. They are ideal family pets and phenomenal with young children . These are also robustly healthy and long-lived dogs; having been bred for many centuries to be highly functional , working on the hilly farms and in the mountains of Norway.

This breed excels in all areas of competition/ dog-sports and we are so proud of our breeding program: There is nothing our dogs have not been able to achieve - be it as top BIS winning conformation dogs and champion winners (the world over) , high in trial obedience & rally dogs, top-winning scenting dogs, incredible service & medical alert dogs, master agility competitors , reliable herding dogs etc- the list goes on and on!

Currently we have one Female Buhund puppy left to place. (scroll down to the album just below). We would love show/performance home for her, but a pet home would be equally appreciated.

The buhund is one of the oldest purebred dogs in the world, predating viking-times in Scandinavia. Sadly this phenomenal breed is nearing extinction, but at KY0N we have been working hard to preserve this little bit of our own cultural heritage( Karin is from Norway).

At the tail end of Norway's National day : May 17th , we focus the Norwegian buhund: An ancient breed of dog ,predating Viking times in Norway . The Norwegian buhund is an ancient and rare breed, sadly nearing extinction , but for decades now Kyon have been trying hard to save this little bit of our own cultural heritage.

KY0N introduced this breed to Canada and we are so proud to have firmly established that our dogs are not only well known as beloved family pets (first and foremost) , but also great herding/ farm dogs, fabulous dogs for all kinds of dog sports , talented service and medical alert dogs ... plus of course they excel in the show-ring!

It is easy to celebrate this breed when we have such an adorable litter - with the cutest puppies imaginable! Blue and 0la puppies are now 5 weeks old and a whole lot of fun, while mama Blue is being the best mama ever!

W0W- a CKC new record has been made by a KY0N Golden!!! We make an effort to breed for both Brains and Beauty and are so thrilled when this all comes together :

We are so incredibly proud to announce that PIPER now is a CKC GRAND MASTER ( Kyon's Chiang Mai SDDA MACH, CKC Sent detection GRAND MASTER ). our HUGE C0NGRATULATI0NS go out to her talented owner/trainer/handler Diane Hamilton ❤️ ❤.

PIPER and Diane Hamilton has thereby made *Golden Retriever breed history*- in being the FIRST Golden Retriever who now has a CKC MASTER scent detection title to add to her impressive SDDA scent resume . We are simply amazed at how well this team has been doing and we feel so honoured to have bred the first CKC Grand Master ! ❤ ❤

We are so thrilled to let you know that our two sweet puppy boys are now full-fledged CKC champions.

LASSE is now formally known as CHAMPI0N Kyon's Lille Legendary Lasse 0'Blackcombe while THUNDER is formally now CHAMPI0N Riverhund Kyon Thunder To DownUnder 0'Blackcombe.

Pending clearances one of these boys will eventually go to our good friend Roberta Crouch in Australia .Lasse was bred and handled mostly by Karin - and Thunder was handled by breeder Ashley Martins as well as co-breeder Karin.

Both boys did very well in baby puppy shows- and puppy groups , plus were pulled in the adult herding group several times. Thunder also received a group placement from the junior puppy class! We are so proud of them both

*PLEASE GET HEALTH-INSURANCE F0R Y0UR PETS- IT C0ULD BE A MATTER 0F LIFE AND DEATH!*

As we are preparing for having Buhund pups and Golden pups go to their new homes *this coming spring* we have changed our policy: We are now seriously urging ALL our puppy-buyers to get pet health-insurance ,for at least the first year, and if you can afford it - also *for the life time of your pet.*

This decision to promote pet health insurance is because of the many tragic stories we have heard from devastated owners in the last year. We have tragically been informed that pet-owners simply cannot afford to do life-saving surgery (for instance if their puppy has swallowed a foreign object) nor can they afford do proper diagnostic procedures .

Instead many pet-owners have had to tragically opt for euthanasia 💔.

Veterinary Costs have simply exploded at the same time when inflation for essentials have also sky-rocketed . With vet-costs easily *tripled* in a matter of a very short time, some people have had to make the very painful decision between doing 'the right thing' for their pet - or feeding their children or pay for housing.

Nobody should have to be faced with this kind of brutal choice... Getting pet-health insurance will save lives !

In the past year KY0N Norwegian Buhunds have simply amazed us- by garnering so many titles; in both the show-ring , as certified therapy dogs and in the performance field( be it in Rally, Agility, Scent work, Barn-hunt, Dock-diving, Herding etc) !

Here are pictured just a few of those Buhunds of our breeding who have impressed us in 2024... and I am quite sure there are many more that could have been included.

Also this album is not counting the many Buhunds that we know of ,who are simply wonderful family pets. Please feel free to post photos below in the comment section. This is , after all, these days the primary function of a Norwegian buhund- to be a beloved and sweet family pet!

We have been so BLESSED by so many wonderful owners who continue to do so much with their KY0N Buhunds- proving daily to the public at large how wonderfully versatile this breed is.

The ancient Norwegian Buhund is a rare breed, sadly nearing extinction- but at Kyon we work hard to preserve this little bit of our cultural Heritage.

We will hopefully have puppies again this spring.

Our Story

Kyon is a small family-run business with tons of experience , having been in the pet-service field for almost 5 decades. We are situated in a great country-setting in the hills of Mono , with lots of room for your pets ( 1 hr northwest of Toronto).

We have bred British style Golden Retrievers under the KYON prefix ( since 1970) and the ancient and unique Norwegian Buhunds (since 1989). Since 1990 we have also provided full service boarding for all breeds and all types of pets . We offer a shuttle service and can pick up and deliver within the GTA area .

Our Golden Retrievers and Norwegian buhunds are bred to be of sweet and highly trainable temperaments, and Kyon is well-known worldwide to have a focus on exceptional longevity as well as health and soundness . Our dogs excel as family pets , but we are also active within a wide varieties of fields of competition. Our dogs do well in conformation showing, obedience and rally, hunt tests, herding , agility , scenting and within the service dog field.
