This handsome yellow lab is Joey!! I got the pleasure of walking him this week 4 times. His mom found me through the Rover app. As you can see, the smells are the most important part of the walk for Joey...this made it difficult to get a good picture of his face. I was trying to do a selfie with him but he would never look at the camera!! Lol 😆 He has the cutest wrinkles in his forehead which you can kind of see in one of the pictures. He was so cute every time I came for his walk he would hop up and down when he saw me and then bring me all of his toys!! ❤️
As you can see I'm wearing a mesh net over my face and top and this was because on the first walk I got eaten alive by mosquitoes and deer flys...so bad that I needed to go to the hospital for steroids to bring down the swelling in my ears and neck!! But then my husband got me this mesh top that covers you like a shirt and you seal your head in too...brilliant!! These are the things I am learning along the way....what I need to be prepared for the job!

This is something I always look for when meeting new dogs as a courier. I'm coming onto their property to deliver a package so I have to be extra cautious and look at their body language.

🐾 Understanding Dog Body Language 🐾

Dogs are ALWAYS communicating with us — we just have to learn how to listen. 💛
Knowing dog body language can prevent bites, reduce stress, and help set dogs up for success.

🐶 Relaxed & Happy Signs:
✔️ Loose, wiggly body
✔️ Soft eyes
✔️ Relaxed ears
✔️ Play bows
✔️ Tail wagging loosely (not stiff)

⚠️ Stress Signals (often missed):
🔸 Lip licking
🔸 Yawning when not tired
🔸 Whale eye (seeing the whites of the eyes)
🔸 Turning away
🔸 Freezing suddenly
🔸 Tucked tail
🔸 Ears pinned back

🚫 Important Reminder:
A wagging tail does NOT always mean a dog is friendly or comfortable. Dogs can wag when nervous, overstimulated, or unsure too. Always look at the WHOLE body.

👧🐕 Kids and dogs should always be supervised together. Fast movements, hugging, climbing on dogs, or getting in their face can make even the sweetest dog uncomfortable.

When we respect a dog’s communication, we build trust — and safer relationships for everyone. 💕

Sometimes a dog doesn’t need more stimulation. They need help feeling safe enough to relax. 🐶💛
Gentle touch and calming routines can help support a dog’s nervous system and encourage relaxation, especially during stressful moments like thunderstorms, vet visits, separation anxiety, overstimulation, or after a busy day.
Some calming techniques dog owners often use include:
• Gentle tapping or rhythmic pats along the upper back or rib area
• Slow ear massages, especially near the base of the ears
• A cool damp cloth on the face or neck during stress or overheating
• Resting your hand softly on your dog’s chest while breathing slowly and calmly
Dogs are incredibly sensitive to energy and body language. Many will naturally begin to relax when the people around them slow down too.
You may notice:
🐾 softer eyes
🐾 deeper breathing
🐾 leaning into your touch
🐾 sighing or stretching out
The goal is never force. It’s helping your dog feel calm, secure, and regulated.
And sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer your dog isn’t a command…
it’s your calm presence. ❤️
