I’ve had a few people reach out to check in and see if we’re okay with the recent strangles cases in the region. While it’s understandably concerning when it’s close to home, we want to reassure everyone that we do not have any cases at our facility.

As horse owners and facility managers, we know this is something that can affect any of us in the equine community. It’s never easy when it’s nearby, and we are grateful it has not impacted our farm.

As a precaution, we implemented additional biosecurity measures earlier this season and continue to monitor closely. The health and wellbeing of the horses in our care remains our top priority. With my veterinary background, appropriate quarantine and veterinary protocols would be put in place immediately if ever required.

Situations like this are a reminder of how important transparency, responsible precautions, and community support are within the horse world. We’re wishing any affected farms a smooth and speedy recovery!

Biosecurity is on everybody's minds lately, especially given the wider outbreak of EHV-1 and the local cases of equine strangles and strep.

Farriers travel to multiple facilities and touch upwards of 10 horses a day. Your role is to INFORM us if you suspect a horse on the property is ill. Informing your farrier will help ensure they don't become a disease vector.

My very simple protocol for suspected illness at a facility is as follows:

* Reschedule work on the affected horse
* Reschedule the affected facility to the END of my day
* Wear a change of clothes
* Sterilize tools and chaps with bleach spray

Even if a horse is just "a little down", or you suspect it's "just" a virus, this protocol applies. This protocol also
applies to horses with suspected skin conditions (eg. lice). I promise I will not stir up the incredibly overdramatic equine rumour mill, but I will make these changes to our appointment.

I also have horses at home, and they would prefer I bring them home carrots, not mystery ailments. ❤️🐴

Everyone had a fun day at the farm enjoying an obstacle set-up and time together with their horses.
Lots of laughs, good company, and a great way to break up the routine.

Love seeing everyone making the most of the facility — and there will definitely be more days like this 🤎

We’re excited to host Dusty Harvey from Kissing Horse Ranch for a First Rides Day!

💰 $250 per horse

Each ride is about a 1-hour session, focused on giving your horse a gentle, confident start — walk, trot, lope — and always ending on a good note.

Horses can be unhandled, broncy, or just needing a restart.

About Dusty Harvey:
Born and raised on the Kissing Horse Ranch outside of Westlock, Alberta, Dusty has spent his life around horses. His family ran over 300 registered horses, and today he focuses on starting colts and building solid performance prospects.

He’s started over 2000 colts, hosted one of Canada’s largest bronc schools, and is known for creating confident, willing horses from the very first ride.
