Simba is a 4 year old Bulldog Mix that was referred to our clinic for a TPLO procedure after he ruptured his left cruciate ligament.
During the initial examination Dr. Aziz found that along with the ruptured left side cruciate ligament; the right stifle had some instability and there was a concern of a possible rupture in future. Dr. Aziz recommended a TPLO procedure to correct the left side and to monitor the right side. Owner approved and booked the surgery
Two weeks before the surgery was scheduled to happen; Simba was playing outside and suddenly was unable to walk. His owner brought him right into the clinic for Dr. Aziz to examine. Upon the physical exam and radiographs; Dr. Aziz determined that Simba had now ruptured his right cruciate ligament. The ruptured cruciate ligaments on the left and right side were causing him to be unable to walk properly with his hind legs.
Taking into account Simba’s quality of life and his recovery Dr. Aziz recommended a bilateral (left and right sides) TPLO procedure. Since Simba was unable to walk on either hind leg this would allow for the best case for recovery
Simba did great during surgery and recovered very well. We followed his recovery very closely and were so happy to see him walking with both hind legs soon after surgery.
Simba has recovered amazingly and after his 8 week post-op check up; he has been back to his normal, energetic self!
