🎉 October is Veterinary Technologist Appreciation Month! 🐾
It’s time to shine a spotlight on the incredible veterinary technologists who are the heartbeat of every veterinary team. ❤️

👩‍⚕️💪 Veterinary technologists do SO much more than most people realize. Here's just a glimpse of what they do every day:

🐶🐱 What Does a Veterinary Technologist Do?

✅ Assist in surgeries
✅ Monitor anesthesia and vital signs
✅ Take X-rays and perform ultrasounds
✅ Collect and analyze lab samples (blood, urine, f***s, etc.)
✅ Administer medications, and treatments
✅ Perform dental cleanings and assist in dental procedures
✅ Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely
✅ Provide emergency and critical care
✅ Educate pet parents on proper care and post-treatment instructions
✅ Maintain patient records and chart medical histories
✅ Ensure proper sterilization and infection control
✅ Provide comfort and care to nervous or sick animals
✅ Support veterinarians with diagnostics and patient care
✅ Help with behavior assessments and enrichment
✅ Manage inventory of medical supplies
✅ And so much more behind the scenes!

They are the nurses, the lab techs, the radiologists, the surgical assistants, the phlebotomists and the animal whisperers all in one.

👩‍⚕️ Meet Dr. Wawryk! 🐾

We’re excited to introduce you to Dr. Wawryk, one of our amazing veterinarians here at Sturgeon Animal Hospital - who joined our veterinary team 3 months ago!

Dr. Wawryk graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in 2018, and has been dedicated to providing top-notch care to her patients ever since. Her veterinary passions include Behaviour and Dermatology, helping pets feel their best—inside and out!

When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. Wawryk is at home with her own 7 beloved animals: 3 dogs and 4 cats—a true animal lover through and through. 🐶🐱❤️

Fun fact: Dr. Wawryk isn’t just strong in her field—she’s a competitive powerlifter and can deadlift an incredible 400 lbs! 💪🔥 Talk about strength and dedication!

We’re so lucky to have her on our team, and your pets are too. 🐾
