🐾Meet Our Team: Spotlight of the week - Rory🤗

We're so excited to share this interview with Rory, one of our dedicated veterinary professionals and one of the practice owners.

Get to know the staff of Sturgeon!

Q: What made you want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine?
A: "I've always had an innate connection with dogs. That special bond inspired me to enter the veterinary field, where I could dedicate my career to ensuring their health and wellbeing."

Q: Do you have a favorite breed of dog?
A: "I've always had a particular fondness for dachshunds. Their unique personality and characteristics make them especially endearing to me."

Q: Can you share your most memorable case?
A: "One case that stands out involved treating a patient with necrotizing fasciitis—a severe bacterial infection that had affected the animal from hip to toe. It was a striking case where the muscles and tendons were clearly visible and looked like an anatomical model. Through a rigorous treatment protocol of antibiotics and meticulous bandage changes, we witnessed remarkable recovery as the skin completely regenerated within 4-5 weeks. Cases like these remind me why I chose this profession—seeing an animal recover from such a challenging condition is incredibly rewarding."

We hope you enjoyed our first mini interview - more to come next week!

Did you know March is 'Tick Awareness' month?

Sunny with a chance of ticks?

With temperature fluctuations at this time of year, checking your weather forecast helps you decide if you need sunglasses, snow boots, or a sweater! But what about ticks – could ticks be active in your area today?

Visit www.tickmaps.ca to get a 2-week ‘tick risk forecast’ or check what days in the last 12 months had potential tick activity.

Regardless of the time of year it is important to remain vigilant and recognize that ticks may still pose a risk to pets
and people.
