Today we remember the soldiers who served — and the horses who stood beside them.
Horses carried men, equipment, ammunition, food, and medical supplies into the heart of battle. They pulled heavy artillery, transported the wounded, and moved through terrain too rough for vehicles. Their strength, loyalty, and willingness made them indispensable partners in war.
The term “bomb-proof horse” was born on the battlefield, describing a horse steady enough to remain calm through gunfire, explosions, smoke, and chaos. These horses were not fearless — they were trained, trusting, and incredibly brave.
More than 8 million horses served in WWI alone. Only a small number ever returned home.
Today, we honour all who served — human and equine.
Lest we forget. 🕊️🐴
