Don’t worry. Your pups got spoiled over the holidays. We were generous with the cookies and treats, and told our guests the were missed, and these were from their families. 🍪💛🍪💛🍪

The most amazing thing happened tonight. In 15 years of caring for your pets over Christmas, we’ve never had this happen before.

It started with a mysterious package at our front door…

During our busiest times of the year, we spend many hours every day on cleaning, correspondence, food prep, outside clean up, and other admin tasks.
We also look after our guests’ needs. :)

If it takes us a bit longer to get back to you, it’s because we are prioritizing looking after your pups. Our team is small and mighty, but also human. Please be patient with us. 💛

Meal prep, featuring a variety of different meal types. Each and every stainless steel bowl goes through the dishwasher after meals and the counter is wiped clean, to help reduce the possibility of germ sharing and spreading.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your dog and yourself, is regular lessons with a skilled instructor.

We have some great facilities and knowledgeable instructors in and around Regina, for fun and interesting classes, for basics and beyond. If you are still shopping for your pup’s holiday gift, a class will always be the right size. :)

If you teach classes and have a new set starting in January, drop a link in the comments to what you have coming up.

Shown: resident dog Gord, who recently finished a beginner class at Kaos, and will continue on with another after the holidays.

When it’s cold, we take in some office temps to help with the work load. They are terrible at typing, but pretty good at general cuteness and joyfulness. :)

If a guest will work for food, that opens up a lot of fun play possibilities, like chasing or hunting for kibble, working food out of a puzzle, and using food lures to teach behaviours like spin or down.
This teeny pup is a pro at kibble chase and gets extra wiggly when she knows she gets to play that game again. What a great way to end the day. 💛

Each of our guests get let out between 10-11pm for a potty, some attention, and a cookie before bed. Some pups love the quick one-on-one play when they are brought out of and before they are put back into their kennels or suites. Some pups can’t get back in fast enough for their cookie. And some, we have to gently prod to get them to wake up. 😆
This pup likes the silly, shoving, surprise hands type play (AND ALSO HIS COOKIE!!) and honestly, that’s fun for us, too. :)

Dogs With Big Feelings Friday

These two youngsters had a great time playing and interacting with each other, from the safety of their separate areas. They show nice wiggly, loose bodies, and playful, exaggerated movements. There was some moderate arousal (energy or feelings) that would have resulted in high-speed chasing, if these two had unrestricted access to each other and their play would have very quickly degraded to something obsessive and unsafe. Instead, the fence between them helped cap the arousal and allowed them to play appropriately for a greater length of time, and take breaks from each other as needed.

It’s always nice when we can find compatible neighbours for our guests who like having social time.

Dogs With Big Feelings Fridays

Today is the Annual Candy Beggars Day, where tiny humans in strange costumes will come shout on your doorstep and ring your doorbell all night long. For many (most) dogs, this will be an unpleasant or worrisome thing, that they will require a lot of support, patience, and understanding to get through.

Door manners are an important and useful life skill, but tonight, where the distractions and difficulty will be dialled up to 11, is not the night to tackle this training. Keep your pup safe and settled, and come back to this skill when you can offer them your full, undivided attention.

Tips for safety and success:

-take your pup for a good sniffy walk before the night gets going, so it will be easier for them to settle in while you are busy giving away your best candy
-give them something better to do than worry, like chew on a bone or bully stick
-turn up the volume on Jay’s game, so you can keep track of the score, and mask some of the sounds and voices
-keep your dog’s collar on, with their tags, so they can find their way home if they accidentally get out the door you will be opening 75 times tonight
-keep your dog at home if you are out trick or treating

photos: a couple of Very Good Dogs with Big Feelings who will get to sleep through all the weirdness tonight, in their crates. :)

Dry dog foods - kibble - is food like any other food. It can spoil or mould or go rancid, and we should use the same hygiene practices with serving it, as we do with our own foods. Here are some suggestions to help keep you safe from contamination:

Dogs explore the world with their noses and mouths, and then when they eat, all that they have come in contact with, good, bad, and icky, can be transferred to their bowls. Wash their bowls regularly - ideally, after every meal, as you’d do with your own food dishes.

Kibble contains a lot of oils, and those oils will, over time, break down the plastics in storage containers. Use a bag inside your reusable storage container or keep the kibble inside its bag, and put the whole thing into your storage container. Wash the container out regularly, with soap and water, as you’d do for your own food storage.

Kibble contains meat! Wash your hands after handling it and throw out uneaten kibble or wet food out if your dog is done with it, as you would do with your own food.

Treat kibbles and other dog foods like the meat products that they are, for safety.

Our Story

We are proud to be the smallest professional kennel in the Regina area. Our low numbers mean that each guest receives hands-on care every day, from highly trained and skilled care givers. Dogs enjoy fully supervised group and/or individual play time, lots of special attention, and relaxing down time during their stay here. Cats stay in luxury 4x8 or 8x8 kennels with multi-level perches and a window in every suite, with the option to play and explore in our sunny 1,000 square foot "Catruim".
