They say today is Rainbow Bridge Day.

We’ve been caring for your dogs for more than 14 years, which means most of the dogs we met when we first opened, aren’t with us anymore.

If you would like to share pictures of a pup we knew (or one we didn’t get to meet), we would love to see them.

Here are our two best old dogs. It’s hard to believe they’ve been gone almost two years.

We miss them every day.

We offer non-holiday, weekday pick up and drop off service to Regina… aka “wanna go for a car ride?!?”
Some pups are just about honking the horn to get going and love it when we have all the windows in the van rolled down. Some tolerate the trip but would give it 2/5 stars. Others do best with a little pharmaceutical help for the journey because car rides are weird and noisy and don’t make a lot of sense and sometimes make your tummy feel funny.
Whichever category your Favourite Family Member falls into, we’re happy to look after the driving for you. :)

We just had our 14(!!!) birthday, and have had a lot of pups through our doors since August 2011. Some of our regulars, we have known for 8 or 10 years, and they are lumpy, sugar-faced seniors now. It is a privilege to know so many dogs for so long, and to have watched them grow up from busy, bitey puppies, into trusty, steady friends.

Thanks for letting us enjoy your dogs for so long. 💛

We don’t have training add-ons as a service option, but we do work on gate and door manners as standard practice. Dogs who jump at or barge through doors and gates can injure themselves and us, and put heavy wear and tear on our facility, so this is a thing we spend time on when needed.
Charlie is just a 6 month old babydog, but she picked this skill up really quick!! She learned that sitting gets what she wants and jumping around delays it, and here we are, with a puppy who is safe to manage and is pleasant to have in our care.

Keep it up, babydog!! You’re a smart little cookie!

Sisters from other Misters, enjoying fun and safe play. We may be a non-social kennel, but that doesn’t mean our guests don’t interact with each other!

I wonder if those dogs who are seemingly naturals at loose leash walking, just have a mechanically slower gait.
Maybe dogs not doing stuff we ask them to, isn’t a compliance issue, but a structural or actual physical ability issue. 💛

Loose lead isnt natural. It’s a skill that has to be learnt. Biomechanically, dogs are built to move faster than us. Dogs choose to shift to a natural trot and on average walk at 2.5 - 4 mph (Hildebrand, 1966) where us naked monkeys on the otherhand average 2-3 mph walking (Kirtley, 2006). Do you know what 2.5 feels like? You should!

Because the mismatch alone creates tension — physically with the lead and emotionally in the relationship. Infact Dogs Trust found 30% of owners considered it a reason to rehome.

Now add in breed differences with research by Fischer & Lilje (2011) suggesting that Different breeds have different locomotive profiles based on original function. Malinois and Vizslas who are bred to move, track, cover ground; hearding breed like kelpies and collies who are bred to arc out infront; scent hounds like Beagles and Bloodhounds - designed to follow their noses with purpose, drive and speed; and of course breeds like Huskies who are literally bred and built to pull - it’s in the actual job description.

Its not a suprise that Rooney & Cowan (2011) found Lead tension and restricted gait was specifically a negative welfare marker for working breeds.

So when we expect all dogs to plod beside us through a park at human pace, ignoring smells, distractions, and natural instinct…we’re arent asking for a behaviour: We’re asking for the dog to restrain their pace, suppress their instincts, and constantly self-regulate.

In my opinion loose lead is one of the three essential skills I believe every dog pro needs to understand in depth - gait, drive, motivation, mechanics, assessment, different technique and exercise, consequence gradients and all.

Because when you understand what you’re really asking for,
you stop calling it stubbornness
and start training it like the advanced skill it actually is. And this leads to way better pet dogs with way happier relationships. ###

Some pups don’t care that we are nearly the coldest place on earth and would be happy to still play all day. 🤷🏼‍♀️

May you enjoy your time outside as much as this guy, who gives every play and every day a solid 11/10.

What do we do when it feels like -45? Lots and lots and lots of quick trips outside, all day long.
Lots.

So many.

*special thanks to Uncle Lonnie for always getting geared up for the cold, to help all our besties burn off some energy. 💛

Our Story

We are proud to be the smallest professional kennel in the Regina area. Our low numbers mean that each guest receives hands-on care every day, from highly trained and skilled care givers. Dogs enjoy fully supervised group and/or individual play time, lots of special attention, and relaxing down time during their stay here. Cats stay in luxury 4x8 or 8x8 kennels with multi-level perches and a window in every suite, with the option to play and explore in our sunny 1,000 square foot "Catruim".
