You ever notice how the plants we’re told to get rid of are often the ones we need the most?
Yep!! Let’s talk about dandelions!!!
Those cheerful yellow renegades that pop up in your yard uninvited and refuse to be tamed.
The ones we’ve been told are weeds.
Spoiler alert: they’re not. They’re ancient medicine. They’re wholesome food.
Basically, they’re little golden gifts from Earth... with a middle finger raised to monoculture!
I think they're a symbol of resilience and rebellion. 💪🌱✊️
If you've gotten this far and don't already know the magic of dandelions you might be wondering what all the fuss is about!
Well.... Every single part of the dandelion is useful. Root, leaf, flower, even the milky latex sap.
🌼 Whole plant = Whole medicine.🤯
🧡 Leaves are diuretics (aka nature’s gentle pee-pusher), great for supporting kidneys and reducing water retention. They're also packed with minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, and calcium so while they help flush you out, they replenish too. Bitter as hell raw (which is medicine in itself, stimulating digestion and liver function), but sauté them with garlic and lemon and suddenly you’re eating like a forager queen.
🧡 Roots are serious liver lovers. They support detox pathways, help regulate hormones, and can even support digestion and skin clarity. Roast them up and you’ve got a caffeine-free coffee substitute that actually does something for your body instead of stealing from it.
🧡 Flowers are little sunshine bombs of antioxidants. Infuse them in oil for sore muscles and achy joints, toss them in pancakes, or ferment them into a wild wine if you’re feeling it! They’ve got a slightly sweet flavor and a ton of vitamin C.
🧡 Sap (that milky white stuff from the stems) has traditionally been used topically to treat warts, pimples, and skin irritations. Kinda witchy. Kinda wonderful.
🌿 Energetics + Magic
Dandelion is tough love. It roots down deep, survives almost anything, and thrives in cracks and forgotten places.
If you need to call in some unshakable life force.... some sun-in-your-veins... this is your plant.
It’s ruled by Jupiter, which means expansion, growth, abundance. It helps you make space in your body and spirit for what’s next. Dreamwork, digestion, detoxification, and defiance all in one humble yellow bloom.
✨ Use it in ceremony or rituals for:
Letting go of what’s stuck
Summoning strength in the face of adversity
Calling in clarity and direction
Connecting to your wild, unruly self
🫖 How to use it:
Tea (leaf or root, fresh or dried)
Tincture (root or whole plant)
Infused oil or salve (flower)
Food! (leaf pesto, root roasted, flowers in baked goods or vinegar)
Just go sit with them.
Blow on a seedhead and wish hard.
And next time you see dandelions growing where they’re “not supposed to,” remember....
Sometimes, the most powerful medicine is one that grows wild and uninvited, right under your feet.
Your BFF,
Steph Wild.
