Let's talk about when your horse needs an adjustment and some common issues that can be caused by misalignment that you as an owner may have noticed.

Here is a long list of symptoms that indicate your horse may need an adjustment, as well as some reasons that have been known to cause misalignment:

🚫Has pulled back / frequently pulling back
🚫Cold-backed / Bucking / Bolting / Rearing
🚫Hard to catch even with consistent training
🚫Problems bending & flexing
🚫Would rather lope then trot
🚫Troubles picking up leads
🚫Refusing to back up or back up straight
🚫Sore & tight muscles
🚫Muscle atrophy
🚫Problems backing out of the trailer
🚫Cinchy
🚫Tossing head
🚫Won't stand for the farrier
🚫Constantly shifting weight while standing
🚫Choppy gait
🚫Short-stepping
🚫Hollow-backed
🚫Rides above the bit
🚫Sudden unexplainable changes in behavior
🚫Swishing tail while riding
🚫Trouble holding or gaining weight
🚫Holds tail and or head to one side
🚫Stiffness or undetermined lameness
🚫Scuffs or drags toe / Uneven hoof wear
🚫Uneven muscle development
🚫Sway back
🚫Roach back
🚫Has had a recent wreck
🚫Will not engage hindquarters while stopping
🚫Has delivered a foal in her lifetime
🚫Has been rode with an improperly fitting saddle
🚫Does not appear to ever lay down
🚫Does not appear to ever roll
🚫Decreased top line / Uwe neck / Tight back
🚫Suddenly appears "Over at the knee"
🚫Random sweat spots
🚫Disuniting / Crossfiring / Dog-tracking
🚫Flighty even with consistent training
🚫Heavy on the forehand
🚫 Foals/Yearlings with angular limbs

All of these problems CAN be caused by misalignment. If treated properly, the majority of these issues can be resolved and have great results!

Before & After Adjustment. What Changed.

These photos show the same horse, taken from the same rear angle before and immediately after an adjustment.

🔴 Before (Left Photo)

What we can see:
🚫Uneven weight bearing through the hind end
🚫One hind limb loading more while the other unloads
🚫A visible pelvic tilt
🚫The tail sitting off center, consistent with compensation from the pelvis
🚫Hind limbs not tracking evenly
🚫Uneven muscle through the gaskins
🚫Asymmetry along the sides of the pelvis
🚫Overall posture appears braced

This posture & muscle differences is commonly seen when a horse is compensating through the pelvis and sacroiliac (SI) region.

🟢 After (Right Photo)

Immediately after the adjustment, the horse is standing and loading differently.

What changed:
✅Even weight bearing through both hind limbs
✅The pelvis appears more level, with the tuber sacrals more even
✅The tail is centered, indicating reduced pelvic compensation
✅Hind limbs are more parallel
✅The sides of the pelvis appear more balanced
✅Stance looks square, relaxed, and neutral

These changes occur when restriction is reduced and the nervous system allows the body to rebalance.

‼️Not perfect yet.

When a horse carries a pelvic tilt and compensates through the pelvis, the rest of the body must adapt. Over time, this can contribute to uneven muscle development & atrophy from compensation, chronic soreness, and reduced performance.

An adjustment helps restore balance so the horse can bear weight more evenly and move more proper. From here, we allow time and proper movement for the muscles to begin functioning evenly and rebuilding symmetrically.
