How One Pig Sparked a Movement — And Why It Still Needs Us
Back in summer 2012, two guys made a choice that changed everything: they rescued a piglet named Esther. That single act of compassion grew into something extraordinary — the creation of Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary in 2014, right in Campbellville, Ontario, a place built to give farmed animals a safe and loving home.
We’ve followed their journey from the very beginning, from Esther’s hilarious updates to the incredible growth of the sanctuary, but this is the first time we’re making a donation. And honestly, it feels like the right moment to step up.
Esther passed away in October 2023, but her legacy lives on in every animal the sanctuary continues to rescue, heal, and protect. Over the years, they’ve supported hundreds of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care — each one a life saved because of the movement Esther inspired.
Winter is the hardest season. Feeding and caring for so many residents takes resources, dedication, and community support.
If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing their mission. Every contribution helps keep these animals warm, fed, and safe through the cold months ahead.

Let’s honour Esther’s legacy by lifting up the sanctuary she inspired — and the lives still depending on it.
We want to share something important with you today, it's part of a message from Derek (Executive Director and co-founder) that was sent out in an email today
It isn’t easy to say, and it isn’t easy to read, but it matters.
💚
“We are in the final days of Holiday Magic. Together, this community has raised roughly $150,000, and we are deeply grateful for every single gift.
But I need to be honest: our needs haven’t changed, and $150,000 isn’t enough to sustain the residents who rely on us every single day. Feed, winter bedding, medical care, seniors, special needs residents — it all adds up faster than we wish it did.
We’ve already cut everything that can be cut, and the decisions ahead are heavy.
Right now, we have a Final Match on the table. Up to $25,000 will be doubled until December 31 at 11:59 pm. During this time, every donation becomes immediate care: warmth, safety, food, medication, and literal time.
This sanctuary has always been powered by people choosing compassion together. If HEEFS means something to you, I’m asking for help, donate if you can, share if you can, tell someone why this place matters.
We’ve moved mountains before. I’m hoping we can do it again.”

If you’re able to give, or help spread the word, we are so grateful.
