Golden Acres Hideaway: Our Story

Years ago our family expanded with the sweetest little puppy we called "Buddy". Buddy, was English Full Bred Golden Retriever who quickly grew his beautiful mane and had the manners of a proper English man. A few years later we once again expanded when we got a rambunctious little puppy we named "Maya". Maya is an American Full Bred Golden Retriever, with a rich r

ed colour and a shorter fur coat. The two of them fell in love and would spend every waking moment together and every night snuggled side by side. It wasn't long before our family expanded again, when on April 12 2008 Buddy and Maya had their own litter of 8 beautiful puppies; Mikko, Ace, Miley, Lucille (Montanna), Princess, Menuca (Butterball), Yukon (Cassie), and Cherry (Beaches). Yet again, on May 31 2011, they blessed us with 10 more puppies; Bella, Jasper (Buddy Jr.), Lucy, Lyla (Angel), Molly, Murphy, Perc, Stella, Sunny and Zee. March 2012, we moved into our dream home on the perfect country home set out on 32 Acres. Our new home will be the place where our children and grandchild grow and play. We will hold doggie reunions, family BBQs and hope to one day have a facility where we can board and care for dogs. And one more time, on March 27 2012, they brought 13 more puppies into this world; Chase (Leaf), Lucy (Rosie), Lily (Suzy-Q), Taz (Checkers), Chad (Wheels), Sasha (Tiger), Moose, Marley (Eyore), Murphy (Speedy), Riley (Bubbles), Henry (Alpha), Maggie, and Frank (Pooh-Bear). Through this experience we have found so many loving families for our fur babies and formed friendships and bonds with people. We are fortunate enough to be able to have these families join us each year for a BBQ and puppy play date. It was just days after one of our reunion and Father's day when we unfortunately lost our beloved Buddy :( His passing was quick, he was with us and I don't believe he suffered. We believe he had a stroke or heart attack. Maya's and Buddy's Complete Love Story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGCm2Ebwtyk We were fortunate as we decided to keep one of the puppies before Buddy's passing; we kept Chase

In 2014, we got another little puppy and named her Daisy-Rose (aka Roserina). Daisy-Rose became Chase and our daughter, Savannah's, best friends. She warmed Maya's heart and has her playing like a puppy again. July 2016, after a lot of consideration we have decided to breed our Chase and Daisy-Rose. On July 26, 2016 they officially tied the knot and were expecting puppies on September 26th!!!! Days pass and Daisy-Rose’s belly has begun to grow. Chase is by her side no matter what they are doing. Her belly starts to move in little waves and everyone is excited. On September 26th Daisy-Rose delivered 6 little puppies: Cooper, Chandler, George, Hallie, Willow and Jersey. These puppies have again found some of the most amazing people and families. We are so fortunate to be able to keep in touch and see how well each are doing. October 26 2017, Daisy-Rose and Chase are expanding their little family! We started the count down and expect a litter to be her December 27th – Merry Christmas! December 27th 2017, Daisy-Rose delivered 7 healthy puppies

How One Pig Sparked a Movement — And Why It Still Needs Us

Back in summer 2012, two guys made a choice that changed everything: they rescued a piglet named Esther. That single act of compassion grew into something extraordinary — the creation of Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary in 2014, right in Campbellville, Ontario, a place built to give farmed animals a safe and loving home.

We’ve followed their journey from the very beginning, from Esther’s hilarious updates to the incredible growth of the sanctuary, but this is the first time we’re making a donation. And honestly, it feels like the right moment to step up.

Esther passed away in October 2023, but her legacy lives on in every animal the sanctuary continues to rescue, heal, and protect. Over the years, they’ve supported hundreds of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care — each one a life saved because of the movement Esther inspired.
Winter is the hardest season. Feeding and caring for so many residents takes resources, dedication, and community support.

If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing their mission. Every contribution helps keep these animals warm, fed, and safe through the cold months ahead.

Let’s honour Esther’s legacy by lifting up the sanctuary she inspired — and the lives still depending on it.

We want to share something important with you today, it's part of a message from Derek (Executive Director and co-founder) that was sent out in an email today

It isn’t easy to say, and it isn’t easy to read, but it matters.

💚

“We are in the final days of Holiday Magic. Together, this community has raised roughly $150,000, and we are deeply grateful for every single gift.

But I need to be honest: our needs haven’t changed, and $150,000 isn’t enough to sustain the residents who rely on us every single day. Feed, winter bedding, medical care, seniors, special needs residents — it all adds up faster than we wish it did.

We’ve already cut everything that can be cut, and the decisions ahead are heavy.

Right now, we have a Final Match on the table. Up to $25,000 will be doubled until December 31 at 11:59 pm. During this time, every donation becomes immediate care: warmth, safety, food, medication, and literal time.

This sanctuary has always been powered by people choosing compassion together. If HEEFS means something to you, I’m asking for help, donate if you can, share if you can, tell someone why this place matters.

We’ve moved mountains before. I’m hoping we can do it again.”

— Derek

If you’re able to give, or help spread the word, we are so grateful.

🐾 Clark is looking for a Loving Home 🐾

We’re helping a friend rehome her cherished dog and are looking for the right match. He’s a 4.5-year-old neutered male, CKC registered, microchipped, and full of personality.

Clark is a laid-back bulldog who loves people, cuddles, car rides, and slow trail walks. He enjoys daycare and farm life, prefers his own space around other dogs, and is great with cats and other animals.

He has food allergies and is on a special diet and medication to keep him comfortable. He also takes meds to help with anxiety at home.

This sweet guy thrives in a calm environment and would do best with a single person or couple. If you’re interested or have questions, please reach out to us at Golden Acres Dog Resort.

Thanks for helping us find him the loving home he deserves 💛
