Porcupine quills are much more dangerous than they look! They aren’t just straight, smooth spikes , each quill has tiny microscopic barbs at the tip that act almost like fish hooks. These barbs allow the quills to easily lodge into the skin and make them extremely painful and difficult to remove.

If your pet has a run-in with a porcupine, it’s very important not to pull the quills out at home. Pets are often painful and stressed, and breaking or improperly removing quills can make the situation much worse.

Veterinary care allows for safe removal, pain management, and a full check for hidden quills that may not be easy to see.

If your pet tries to make friends with a porcupine, call us right away.

May is Canine Arthritis Awareness Month 🐾

We often see pets in urgent care for sudden limping or difficulty getting up, but not all limps are injuries. Arthritis can flare up quickly and cause significant pain.

🚨 Come see us if your dog is:

1. Suddenly limping or not bearing weight
2. Crying out or reluctant to move
3. Unable to get up or seems very stiff
4. Not eating or acting lethargic

Arthritis doesn’t have to slow them down, but pain should never be ignored.
We’re here to help keep them comfortable and rule out more serious issues!
