Food Security for your Family

Queen’s Farm Fundy is looking for five (5) multi-generational families to participate in our “Shared Garden 2020”. If you have a family of 10 to 12 members with some basic gardening experience, we are looking to share our garden with you this summer! Also open to four (4) smaller families...

A garden of plenty

Every summer I host European visitors who help me with the puppies and the garden, but this year with all of the craziness, this might be over for seasons to come. The garden is usually used to feed our staff and the farm to table B&B, so unless I get help, the garden will be very small this season! I do not expect the food chain to be able to survive this season since most of it is being harvested by migrant workers, so it is time to secure our food supply.

Plenty of planters

So the plan here is to open the garden at full capacity to help feed about 60-80 people who will participate in the hard work and share a tasty harvest. Different days and weekend shifts will keep workers at legal social distance. If there is a surplus, it will be sold or open to trade, financing our garden tools and watering system for the next season. So if you have garden tools and experience, you will be considered before other families.

4 Families “The Weekenders Plan” (Family of 4 to 6) 400$

You, with 3 other families, have separate garden times during the weekend and will have 50$ worth of garden produce for a minimum of 10 to 12 weeks. You have to be able to give 3 to 4 hours weekly for the season with a minimum of 2 members per family.

It is about 8$ per person per week.

5 Families “The Partner Plan” (Family of 10 to 12) 800$

You, with 4 other families, have separate garden days during the week and will have 100$ worth of garden produce for a minimum of 10 to 12 weeks. You have to be able to give 4 to 6 hours weekly for the season with a minimum of 3-4 members per family.

It is about 8.50$ per person per week.

Grass Fed Pork “Cloning the Bacon” (4$/lbs) 450$ to 600$

Get your half Berkshire pig, about 120 to 140 lbs of great heirloom meat. All the butchering is done here at the farm by a professional butcher. Vacuum packed and ready for the freezer. Learn how to do your own sausages, jerkys and smoked meats or have it done here.
