Kyla of KTK Studios did an incredible job of capturing my BFF (best furry friend) and soul pet. She was absolutely wonderful to work with and I highly recommend her. I was so lucky to be one of the three free pet portraits she offered to people who donated to local wildlife rehabilitation group Salthaven West. We love it when people give back to the community and use their skills to make the world a better place!

This isn't something I hear about often, but as cats are living longer I know some of cats I care for have experienced this in their later years, and my eldest feline bff is also showing signs of feline dementia. I just wanted to share this to spread awareness.

Why is this an important cause to me (and hopefully it will be to you too)?

"Regina Transition House works to support women and children who have experienced Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and are seeking a system of support in their healing journey. A common barrier that women often face when leaving an unsafe situation is the inability to take their pets with them. This added challenge of finding a pet-friendly refuge is a significant barrier for women fleeing violence. Unfortunately, this means often times women will choose to stay in unsafe relationships and situations for fear of what might happen to their pet(s)."

After calling Regina's 24-hour Vet Care line (306) 761-1449 when my giant mini haus panther decided to have a lick of my garlicy oniony mushroom alfredo, I was advised to call the Pet Poison Helpline to determine if he had ingested enough to have serious problems (like kidney damage). Garlic and onions are toxic to cats, so I called right away and they ran calculations so they could determine next steps. They will give you a case # that you can use to give your vet if they need more specifics, or if you need to call back again you can use that number and they will be able to pull up the case (and you won't get charged for it).

24/7 Animal Poison Control Center for both Pet Owners and Veterinarians. If your dog, cat, or other pet is poisoned, call 800-213-6680.

This little one is the apple of my eye. She was diagnosed with early kidney disease this year, and as that will likely progress over time, I may need to adjust the amount of work I take on so that I can give her all the loving care and attention she deserves. I am lucky that for now her kidney disease is stabilized. As fellow cat lovers, some of whom have also been lucky enough to have a soul pet in their life, I know you'll understand if my availability decreases so I can spend more time with my sweet girl.
