We made the difficult decision to close rescue this year, but that doesn’t mean we’ve closed our hearts off to emergency situations!
We’d like to introduce everyone to Miss Momma Angora the ratty. ❤️🐀 Angora and her three pups are temporarily hanging out with the Critter Crew until Reynard Rats Rattery can make it into the city to give them the proper care they need.
Angora’s story starts off sad. She was purchased from a “breeder”, unknowingly pregnant, and gave birth to five pups shortly after. Despite the new owner’s inexperience in this situation, she did her absolute best, and three of the pups survived. 🥹 She made the difficult decision to surrender the young family to Reynard Rats so Angora and her children could thrive. To her last owner: thank you so much for caring about these little souls! 💕
This is a wonderful opportunity to shed light on some things. Being a breeder is a serious commitment. It is your responsibility to research all of the nuances that come with it, and learn from mistakes. Angora’s breeder failed her in several ways: her actual age is unknown, the father is unknown, there was no follow-up, and there was no take-back policy in place. These are just a few examples. There are already too many animals scared, lost, alone, and unwanted. Rescues and shelters are filled to the brim. As a breeder, it should be top priority to prevent any more suffering and to work alongside those rescues and shelters instead of adding to the problem.
If any of our followers are interested in learning about rats, they make wonderful companions! We recommend Reynard Rats Rattery, and of course, we also recommend checking in with a rescue or shelter to see if there is someone there that needs a home. 🥰
