The Balanced Pack Pet Care was established September 2012
Noting the need for more structured, supervised, and educational ‘dog daycares’ within the city. We opened one of Regina's few & now thriving, in-home dog daycare facilities, the dogs we’ve met through the years are happier and healthier for it! Smaller numbers, a calm relaxed environment, diligent supervision, structured exercise and train

ing sessions.. Our mission is to provide a structured, enriching, learning environment to mold, and maintain well mannered, well socialized, canine companions.

Last but certainly not least in our spring group class line up.. Rockin’ Recalls!
(As seen in action here lol)

This class is all about building up your value in your dogs eyes, especially when there’s conflicting interests, and even when there isn’t. We all want the safety and control of having a dog that listens when you need them to.
In this course you’ll learn how to start these skills on leash, while teaching them the value in your requests, and creating clarity in the behaviour you want from your dog. You’ll learn how to proactively manage off leash interactions, and better understand your dogs competing motivators. Distractions will soon be no match for your rockin’ recall!

*All dogs will be on a long line for the duration of this class, for safety and bylaw purposes, but we’ll cover how to practice these behaviours off leash in an enclosed safe area, or in public areas with the use of a longline.

More detailed Class outline will be sent upon registration

5 weeks | Class starts April 9th @ 5pm | Cost: $160 ($10 off for current pack members)
First class will be at our facility and additional locations will be utilized for practicing out in the real world.

Next in our spring group class line up is.. Advanced Structured Steps(NEW!)

This class is a continuation of our Structured Steps class, dogs must have taken a SS prior to moving on to this class. We up the challenges for both dog and owner, continue controlled and comfortable exposure for our more reserved or reactive participants, and we’ll build on our advocating drills to improve confidence at both ends of the leash when faced with approaching on/off leash dogs.
Each week will be at a new location(maybe even your neighbourhood!) to continue our generalization and reinforce that the structured walk applies “everywhere”

More detailed class outline will be sent upon registration.

Starts Saturday April 9th, 2022 @ 3pm | 5 Weeks | $160 ($10 off for current pack members)

Research and research!
Even if you plan on getting a rescue or mixed breed dog, having an understanding of the overall traits within the breeds those dogs commonly are.
Shepherds, Pyrenees, collie, pit bull types and a plethora of other breeds are very commonly found in shelter dogs and rescue organizations. If a mixed bag of behaviours, quirks, and genetic traits are up your alley, a rescue is probably perfect for you!

If your lifestyle requires a more limited and known set of genetic tendency’s that you’re dog needs to posses, then working with a reputable breeder may be more up your alley to give yourself the best chance of a perfect match!

Or be like me and adopt all adult rescue dogs so you really know as much about them, their quirks, and existing behaviours going in to it-rather then a sudden surprise drive popping up when they turn 6 months old 😜

Bottom line, think it out and honestly evaluate your lifestyle, and your dogs role in your life. Then go get that perfect match for you! ☺️

Oldie but a goodie and extra relevant right now as foxtails ravage the city!

BEWARE of FOXTAILS 🌾

Did you know that foxtails are a serious plant! Their barbed seeds burrow to imbed themselves, yes even in your dog. These pesky plants are abundant around the city, in the city, on trails. They may even be in your backyard!

I first learned of them when I was back working at Expressway Kennels, we used to ravage the property pulling out all these w**ds while they were green-before they turned brown and started blowing around! It's one of the only ways to really deal with this w**d, outside of poisons.

Foxtails embed themselves most commonly in dogs feet/nose/mouth where they're most likely to sniff/step on them. So take care out there on your summer adventures and if you think your dog may have ingested a foxtail, get to the vet!
Just recently one of our Pack members had to make an emergency visit because of these pesky plants.

Here's some tips to remember when it comes to foxtails:
▪️When you first start your walk-be vigilant to the foxtails in the area-are they recently mowed, still green? On the trail? Off the trail? If it looks messier than you'd like, no shame in turning back!
▪️If you think the trail is worth the risk, just be mindful of your dog and what they're stopping to sniff/roll in/etc.
▪️After a walk check over your dogs feet(between pads) and look for any potential irritation
▪️Check over their nose and mouth area and make note of any odd gagging type sounds/reflexes as it could be an indicator of a foxtail in their airway!
🔹Foxtails aren't fun, but if you pay attention to where you walk, you can do your best to avoid any mishaps with the prickly buggers!
