The School Horse

The schoolie is our unsung hero. The backbone, really, of our industry. He lets the kids run around and make so many noises, bang his tack, brush him, bath him. He teaches them so much. Patience, perservenece, confidence. How to communicate on a different level. And even though their little hands aren’t always quiet, their rhythm is a little off, or their cues are wrong. The schoolie takes care of them. The kids learn to love the smell. The feel. The clip clop sound
that the schoolie makes down the aisle way. These horses tolerate so much. Some won’t give it away for free, will make the kid try and work hard, and know just when to give them what they’re asking for. But he will always be there for hugs.

Good school horses are worth their weight in gold. And I always try to take extra special care of them.
