Daisy & Dill

Daisy & Dill I collaborate with homeowners to reclaim lawn space and truly make it 'green'. Daisy & Dill was born out of a love of growing flowers and food.

Seeing the high production and micro-habitat in my own front yard, I realized that we could be better utilizing all of the front yard spaces that sit with a monocrop requiring high maintenance and little return. Daisy & Dill seeks to turn "Grass to Gardens" by using a unique approach. We will work directly with homeowners to convert their sunny yard space and grow many varieties of vegetables and

flowers all lending themselves to create beauty and highly nutritious foods. There are many benefits to increasing the diversity of plants grown in a small area. Not only does it increase the biodiversity in the soil, but it adds support for many species of pollinators, beneficial insects and birds. The environmental benefits are also important, as adding organic matter to our soil increases water absorbency and retention. This can help reduce flooding and municipal water use. Changing grass to garden reduces the chemical load on our soil, insects and water systems as well, provided the garden is managed in an organic way. There is still so much to learn and much to talk about, but I hope you are inspired to discover more about gardening and how to support our local environment and food production with Daisy & Dill.

Here is my big news!

I am the new owner of Coal Trail Greenhouses!

I am so excited for this new venture and hope to see you all stop in to pick up your hanging baskets and annual flowers!

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Kelly and Donna for taking me under their wings and mentoring me into this new and exciting role.

I am looking forward to stewarding the legacy of beautiful plants and excellent service that has been our hallmark for the last 30+ years.

I look forward to seeing you in the greenhouse and being in your corner for all things flowers!

I am looking for one or 2 folks who can help plant up my flower gardens this spring. πŸ’πŸ€©πŸ’

I will need someone with a vehicle, who can work independently, and is able to do some clean up as well as planting baby plants.

Send me a message if you are interested in helping grow some amazing local flowers!πŸ’

Seed snail update!

I am quite impressed with the root length that my sweet peas are achieving, though I did replace some of the wet soil with dry and I did add more dry soil to buy me another couple of weeks until I can get these beauties fully hardened off and planted out.

Overall I am impressed with the snail technique, but as with so much in life there is room to improve and more to learn!

Be cautious with over watering these guys. Because there is so much soil, they take much longer to dry out, putting young seedlings at risk of damping off.

If you have any cool season crops started, now is a great time to start hardening them off to get them in the ground ASAP.

I like to cover mine with some floating row cover to protect them a little bit from the wind and the bright sun while they acclimate to the real outdoors.

I have ranunculus, anemones, pansy, sweet pea, ammi, orlaya and Dara all finding their way out of doors these days! One day very soon these babies will be planted out into the gardens. They will likely remain covered for another couple of weeks for weather, bird and deer protection. πŸ₯΄

Spring is here and I WILL grow my flowers. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ž

The ranunculus are quite enjoying the sunshine and cool weather! They thrive in cool spring!
