Growth is a continuous journey of trial and error. We live, we learn, we move forward.
I know what it’s like to struggle with your own dogs. I’ve been there….
Lesson learned. I reached out to a trainer many years ago after an incident with my own pack. She knew us, our pack, our story and was quick to point out where the issue was. I was unable to see it or didn’t want to admit it because truth was, I knew she was right. I wasn’t providing the same structure, rules, boundaries and guidance across the board with my own because our one girl has a condition called Megaesophagus (ME) and because of this I was softer, easier on her, and didn’t hold her to the same standards I did the others. I fell into the trap of feeling sorry for her because of her condition, coddling her and giving her everything.
Where did this lack of structure, rules, boundaries and guidance lead to, for us?
After living happily together for a few years our girls started to have arguments/disagreements which eventually led to their 1st of 3 fights over a short period. While there were no major injuries, it was a wake up call!😳I learned quickly that as cute as our ME girl is, she’s no different than any other other dog. Her needs are still the same…except one. (The way she eats)
This experience was another catalyst for me wanting to educate myself and learn as much as I could, to not only help my dogs but to also help other owners and their dogs. Dog behaviour became a passion.
