🌟 Patient of the Week 🌟

This golden ray of sunshine came in for her puppy vaccines this week and quickly became the star of the clinic! ☀️🐾

She strutted through the door, soaked up all the attention she could get, and handled her vaccines like a total champ. We think the treats may have helped a little. 😉

With her sweet personality, puppy kisses, and endless charm, she had our team wrapped around her paw in no time.

Thank you for making our week a little brighter, sweet girl. We can’t wait to watch you grow! 💛🐶

🤯 That’s a lot of bladder stones!

This sweet German Shepherd recently underwent a cystotomy with our team, where we removed nearly half a pound of bladder stones from her bladder.

Bladder stones can develop over time and may cause discomfort, frequent urination, urinary accidents, blood in the urine, and even urinary blockages. In her case, there were enough stones to fill an entire container!

We’re happy to say she handled surgery like a champ and is now recovering comfortably at home. ❤️🐾

Cases like this are a great reminder that changes in your pet’s urinary habits should never be ignored.

🐾 Why Do We Sometimes Need to Replace Urinary Catheters? 🐾

For patients hospitalized with urinary obstructions, urinary catheters are essential for keeping the bladder drained and allowing us to monitor urine production.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, catheters can become blocked with crystals, blood clots, or other debris from the bladder. When this happens, the catheter may need to be replaced to ensure urine can continue to flow properly and to help prevent further complications.

The photo below shows a catheter that became blocked with crystals and debris—a reminder of why close monitoring is so important during recovery from a urinary obstruction.

Our team keeps a close eye on these patients every step of the way to help ensure the best possible outcome. 🐱❤️

Harper’s story is one that has touched all of our hearts. 💛

Just days after walking alongside his dad, Sean, at Relay for Life, Harper was diagnosed with cancer. This weekend, our team had the privilege of removing his malignant mast cell tumour, and we’re happy to see him recovering at home.

We’re honored to be part of Harper’s journey and are wishing him a smooth recovery as he continues his fight with the love and support of his family by his side.

This photo was taken today — day two of Harper’s recovery.

Just over a week ago, Harper walked in Relay for Life in Rothesay with his dad, Sean, as part of something deeply personal.

Sean is a cancer survivor, and this year he had the honour of being the guest speaker at the Relay rally in Rothesay, NB. Harper was right there with him, doing what Harper does best: showing up, making people smile, and reminding everyone that love is often the thing that carries us through.

Then, one week later, Harper was diagnosed with cancer too.

On Monday, we got the news. On Saturday, he had surgery to remove a malignant mast cell tumour. And now, just like his dad Harper is in his own fight.

It’s hard to find the words for that kind of full-circle moment.

At WWICI, we talk a lot about courageous conversations, resilience, belonging, and building cultures where people don’t have to carry hard things alone. This is one of those moments that brings all of that home in the most real way.

Because courage isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like walking beside someone you love. Sometimes it looks like getting up after a diagnosis. Sometimes it looks like a big, gentle dog sitting in the sunshine on day two of recovery and reminding us why we keep showing up.

For Sean.
For Harper.
For every survivor.
For everyone still fighting.
And for the people who walk beside them. 💛

❤️ Community, dogs, and a beautiful day—what more could we ask for?

This past Saturday, we were proud to be part of the Fresh Start Dane Rescue Inc. event. It was wonderful meeting so many passionate pet owners and seeing the incredible work being done to help Great Danes find loving homes.

Thank you to Fresh Start Dane Rescue for organizing such a fantastic event and to everyone who came out to support rescue animals.

🐱👁️ Corneal Ulcers in Cats: What Every Cat Owner Should Know 👁️🐱

A corneal ulcer is a painful wound or scratch on the surface of the eye. Even a tiny ulcer can become serious quickly without treatment, so early veterinary care is important!

⚠️ Signs your cat may have an eye ulcer:
• Squinting or keeping one eye closed
• Excessive tearing or discharge
• Redness around the eye
• Pawing or rubbing at the face
• Cloudy appearance to the eye
• Sensitivity to light

Corneal ulcers can happen from scratches, rough play, infections, foreign material, or underlying eye conditions. Cats are especially prone to ulcers associated with feline herpesvirus.

🩺 How are they diagnosed?
Your veterinarian can perform a simple fluorescein stain test that highlights ulcers on the eye surface.

💊 Treatment may include:
• Eye medications/antibiotics
• Pain control
• Antiviral medications if needed
• E-collar use to prevent rubbing
• Recheck exams to monitor healing

🚨 Eye problems should never be ignored — ulcers can worsen rapidly and may threaten vision if left untreated. If your cat is squinting or their eye suddenly looks abnormal, it’s best to have them examined as soon as possible.

And remember… even the cutest little patients still need their meds! 💕🐾
