Purebred registered Dorset Horn ewe lamb. Twin, born March 7, 2025.
A rare British heritage breed, Dorset Horns are a medium-sized sheep (ewes weigh 150-200lbs, rams 225-275) with short legs and a deep, well-muscled, long and blocky body. They are heavy milkers and have been used historically as a dairy breed as well as for meat and wool. They have the ability to breed out of season - three lamb crops in two years is possible. They do well on pasture and are very heat tolerant (the horns dissipate heat and help regulate body temperature). Both rams and ewes are horned. They produce a creamy white fleece (5-9 lbs) with a 4 inch staple, dense and firm with an irregular crimp and a fibre diameter in the 26-33 micron range, which is increasingly popular with hand spinners
