⚠️ HEALTH & TRAVEL UPDATE: Keeping Our Local Pups Safe This Season 🐾👇

We are currently seeing a local surge in Kennel Cough (Bordetella) cases, primarily affecting unvaccinated dogs. With fall and winter holiday travel around the corner, family gatherings, visiting pets, and boarding stays, cases are about to pick up!

A quick tip when checking your dog’s records:
⚠️Vaccines like Bordetella are not necessarily given depending on your prior Veterinary Clinic.

Because local exposure risk is so consistent in our area, we automatically include Bordetella as a standard part of our annual vaccine recommendations for all local dogs. However, other practices may treat Bordetella as an optional add-on unless specifically requested—which can leave subtle gaps in protection during a local spike.

If you aren't 100% sure whether Bordetella was included in your dog's last visit elsewhere, take a quick peek at their paperwork or give our team a call! Vaccines take a few days to build full protection, so verifying coverage before holiday visits keeps everyone safe.

📍 Symptoms to watch for:
• Persistent dry or "honking" cough
• Sneezing or runny nose
• Lethargy or lower appetite

If your pup is currently coughing, please keep them cozy at home and call our clinic right away!

Downtown Vancouver!😱Rabies is on the rise across Canada. Make sure your pets are vaccinated to protect all your loved ones.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is notifying the public that a skunk captured in downtown Vancouver has tested positive for rabies.

Anyone who may have been bitten or scratched, handled, picked up or otherwise had direct contact with a sick or abnormally behaving skunk in downtown Vancouver West End and Stanley Park Area between September 22 and October 17, 2026, should contact VCH immediately for assessment.

Stop feeding parasites! 🛑Let's make sure your dewormer program is working.

If your feed and hay bills are higher than ever, the last thing you want to feed is internal parasites. 🌾

Across North America, parasite resistance to standard, off-the-shelf dewormers is at an all-time high. When worms adapt to common treatments, "blind" or calendar-based deworming leaves resistant parasites behind to multiply in your pastures and coops.

The result?
❌ Animals eating more feed but losing weight or struggling to maintain condition
❌ Drop in milk, egg, or growth production
❌ Sudden, severe anemia and a health crises that can lead to death or expensive treatment costs.
❌ Money wasted on deworming tube after deworming tube that isn't working

The good news? You don't have to guess.

A quick F***l Egg Count (FEC) takes the mystery out of farm health. By testing a fresh sample, we can tell you exactly if your animals need treatment, which parasites are present, and whether your current dewormer is getting the job done.

3 Easy Steps to Test Your Herd or Flock:
1️⃣ Collect: Grab 1–2 fresh manure pellets/droppings per animal (or a composite sample from under the roost for poultry) in a clean Ziploc bag.
2️⃣ Chill: Press out excess air and keep it cool in your fridge or a cooler with an ice pack (never freeze!).
3️⃣ Drop Off: Bring it to our veterinary hospital within 24 hours. We’ll handle the rest!

Protect your animals’ health and stretch every feed dollar further. 💚
