After 23 years, Prince George Animal Rescue Society is permanently closing. We are finally retiring from rescue and it comes with mixed emotions. Relief ,anxiety, sadness, pride are just a few. It’s time for us to slow down a bit and start putting ourselves, our own health and family first. Our now grown children have only ever known a house and property filled with rescue animals and our crazy busy lifestyle . PGARS taught them how to help heal kittens, puppies, horses, lambs, etc. They also unfortunately had to see how cruel and neglectful some humans can be. Our children will forever be animal lovers and will never turn a blind eye to an animal in need. We hope that will also be the same for the dozens of volunteers that have helped us over the years. Some of our volunteers and supporters have become lifelong friends and that is something we will truly cherish. We hope we were also able to make a difference in the lives of some of the youth that came to PGARS through various programs.
So now the time draws near when I no longer have to field multiple daily calls, texts, emails and social media demands .The big, beautiful sign at the end of our long driveway will come down. Feeding and chores will no longer take hours each day. Planning vacations will no longer be such a stressful process. Our vehicles will no longer be filled with multiple kennels of animals for weekly vet visits. We will no longer be relying on our personal expenses and working extra jobs to keep the rescue running. Since 2020 our insurance for the rescue and for me to continue as a riding instructor became unbelievably expensive. I had to give up teaching lessons and my partner Grant, affectionately referred to a stable boy, took on the slack, working multiple jobs sometimes. He was the backbone that helped keep PG ARS going. .
There are so many people to thank for helping PGARS become the successful respected organization it was. Thank you to our vets, techs and admins at College Heights Vet Clinic. Ricardo, I will miss telling you I won’t be back till next week! Andrew, you are always on top of everything going on with us at the clinic and your dedication as a volunteer was above and beyond (next to Paige and Emma, lol). Thank you Murdoch Bet Clinic, Green Mobile and Westwinds. Thank you Jo, the tech every tech should aspire to be 💕 Jen McConnell, you are so desperately missed. RIP my friend. These amazing people have shared a lot of tears with us, but also a lot of laughter and triumph. Thank you to all the horse chiropractors, massage therapists, farriers and trainers. Thank you John Brinks for his very generous support over the years and for Scott McWalter for helping make so many things happen. Thank you Kristina Sharma and Michal Biterman for their amazing fundraising efforts, our rescue bus and for their support at 100 Heroes. Thank you, Denae Smith and all the fabulous staff at Bosley’s and Total Pet for helping us adopt out literally hundreds of animals over the years and for your tireless fundraising efforts year after year, we truly could not have done it without you guys! Thank you, Special Constable, Debbie Goodine, and the staff at the BCSPCA, for always trusting our abilities to wrangle and rehabilitate. Last but not least, thank you to all our friends and family that have been on this crazy, twenty three year long journey with us.❤️
We still have two lovely dogs and two horses in our care to find homes for and we still have several adoption contracts to fulfill (future spays/neuters). Our website and social media accounts will still be active until those commitments are complete. I will be posting a memory album soon.
Once again, thank you EVERYONE for your trust, love and support !!!!!
