It’s Hug Your Cat Day! 🐱✨ A purr-fect reminder of what great feline care really looks like, starting with trust, comfort, and a whole lot of love. Meet Cherish 🐾

This sweet girl came in for her annual exam, and her family chose to include a senior preventative bloodwork panel as part of her visit! Preventative care like this is one of the best ways to support long-term health in cats, helping us catch changes early and stay ahead of concerns.

Cherish is also just a dream in clinic. She’s calm, gentle, and so comfortable with handling thanks to her regular visits for things like nail trims, making exams and sampling low-stress and easy with minimal restraint needed.

That comfort doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from consistent, positive experiences, and a very thoughtful cat mumma doing everything right to keep vet visits familiar and stress-free 💛

Good news! Because Parasite Prevention Month has been so popular, we've decided to extend the promotion until June 19.

With summer around the corner, pets are spending more time exploring trails, backyards, parks, and lakes. Unfortunately, parasites love the warmer weather too. 🐛 Not all parasites are obvious… and not all of them stay outside. 🦟

External parasites tend to get most of the attention, and honestly? We get it. The idea of fleas in your bed or ticks on your pet is instantly unsettling.

But internal parasites deserve just as much attention.

Many intestinal parasites can be picked up in everyday environments, through contact with soil, outdoor spaces like yards and gardens, or exposure to other animals. Because they aren’t visible, they often go unnoticed until testing — or until there are changes in appetite, behaviour, or stool 🤢

The important thing to know is that exposure can happen even for pets that stay close to home or spend most of their time indoors.

With May being Parasite Prevention Month at Birchwood, we’re offering savings on deworming and prevention products to help make it easier to keep pets protected year-round. Need a little post-long weekend motivation? We prescribe one cute puppy, a veteran clinic visitor, and an elite stanky leg 🐶✨

Lucky came in for his very first vet visit and handled it like a pro.

His big brother came along for moral support... or at least that was the original plan. The second the butt scratches started, he pulled out his signature move: the stanky leg. Not just any stanky leg either — the kind of veteran-level pose that says, "I've been here before and I know exactly how to get the attention back on me." 😂

Ticks aren’t just a “summer problem” anymore — Public Health Agency of Canada notes that ticks carrying disease are being found in more areas across Canada than in the past, making awareness and prevention more important year-round.

Heading into the May long weekend—here’s everything you need to know:

✅ We are OPEN Friday (8am–6pm)
🛑CLOSED Monday for Victoria Day
✅ Regular hours resume Tuesday

🐾 Friday is a great time to get ahead of the weekend:
• Pick up any medications or food your pet will need
• If you’re heading out camping or spending time outdoors, it’s a good idea to grab a few basics just in case (GI support, wound care supplies, etc.)
• A bit of planning now can save a lot of stress later if your pet needs anything while you’re away

🌿 Seasonal reminder:
• It’s parasite prevention month
• Ticks and other parasites are active right now—make sure your pet is up to date before heading outdoors or dropping them off at the kennel!

🚨 If something comes up over the weekend:
• VetTriage is a virtual veterinary service that can assess your pet, provide home-care guidance, and direct you to the on-call clinic in Prince George if needed
