An excerpt from Cliff Schadt that really rings true to how I do things around here…

“It is crucial, when sending a horse to a trainer, that your expectations align with reality.

It takes literal years to make a good horse… and even longer to make a great one.

The first 30, 60, or 90 days are not about creating a finished product. They’re about laying a foundation. Teaching a horse how to think, how to regulate pressure, how to move their feet correctly, how to accept boundaries, and how to become safe and willing partners.

People often see polished moments online and assume that’s what a young horse looks like all the time. What they don’t see is the support underneath it — the timing, feel, preparation, repetition, and years of experience holding that horse together in those moments.

Young horses are a lot like young people. Some are naturally confident. Some are sensitive. Some mature quickly. Some take time. Genetics, conformation, prior handling, trauma, physical ability, and mindset all play enormous roles in the outcome.

A good trainer can guide the process, but no honest horseman can rush maturity.

The horses that stay sound mentally and physically for the long haul are usually the ones allowed the time to truly understand their job instead of simply surviving the pressure of it.

Fast results might impress people for a season.
A proper foundation lasts a lifetime.”

Happy Tuesday☀️

I’ve decided to open up a few spots for a groundwork only program. I have availability for this August-November. This is a program for weanlings-2 year olds to learn the important and necessary life skills!
We will target areas including but not limited to halter breaking, learning to stand for the farrier, loading in the trailer and self loading, standing tied, rope work and softness in the body.
Set your youngster up for success and make life easier for both you and your future trainer by giving them a proper foundation in groundwork. Message me to book!🐴
